Introduction: Dual Threading Dial Indicators for the Lesto Scintilla.

About: general bloke type of tinkering

This is a remix of a Sieg SC4 indicator found on Thingiverse.

I wanted it for my elderly Lesto Scintilla which has a 2mm leadscrew thread. The Thingiverse gear was a 30 tooth, too big and skipped over the top of the threads.

I redesigned the dial face by adding 4 marks and designed a new 20T and 21T gear, with these I can cut most metric threads from 0.25 to 8mm.

  • 4 X 608ZZ bearings.
  • 8mm dia shaft from an old printer.
  • M6 bolt 85mm long for mounting the body.

Step 1: Printed Parts.

The original body and spacer were unmodified and I have included them to save time.

The numbers were made with letter punches and filled in with a black permanent marker.

A strip of aluminium was bent and mounted to the side of the carriage.

The gear teeth were cleaned with a triangular needle file as my diy printer struggles with gears and holes.

All parts were printed in PLA, 0.2mm layer height and 30% infill, supports" to the bed" for the body.

Step 2: Threading Table.

I made this threading chart using info found at an online threading dial indicator calculator.

When making 2mm pitch thread, incidentally the Dremel 3000 has a threaded nose cone of M19 x2mm, I use the 20T dial and rotate the 21T dial off the leadscrew, that way I dont make a mistake and reference the wrong dial.
