Introduction: Dutch Baby Pancake

About: Hey y'all! My name is Lydia and I want to share my passion for cooking/baking with everyone!

Dutch Baby Pancakes sound pretty sophisticated to make but the ingredients are pretty basic and easy! Another neat thing about Dutch Baby Pancakes is that they can be served sweet or savory. The only downfall (literally) is that they deflate so quickly but not to worry, that wont compromise on the flavor which is nice and custardy. In this instructable i'll teach you how to make a dutch baby pancake step by step, or you can watch the video tutorial here!

Step 1: Tools and Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted Butter
  • 3 eggs (room temp)
  • ½ cup Flour
  • ½ cup Milk (room temp)
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Nutmeg

Toppings

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Fruit
  • Maple Syrup

Tools

Step 2: Preheat Oven and Skillet

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Add in your cast iron skillet and allow it to heat up in the oven as the oven preheats.

Step 3: Add Ingredients to Blender

Combine eggs, flour, milk, sugar, vanilla, salt and nutmeg in a blender jar.

Step 4: Blend

Blend until smooth (try to not over blend).

Step 5: Rest

ALLOW BATTER TO REST 25 MINUTES.

Step 6: Butter and Batter

Place butter in the cast iron skillet and allow it to melt. As soon as the butter has melted (watch it so it does not burn) add the batter to the pan.

Step 7: Bake

Return pan to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the pancake is puffed and golden. Remove pancake from oven. It is inflated very nicely but it will deflate do not worry when it deflates.

Step 8: Add Toppings

Add toppings to the dutch baby and cut into wedges (if you prefer) you can also eat it straight from the cast iron skillet but it will be hot!

Step 9: Enjoy!

Enjoy your Dutch Baby Pancake!
