I only ask because it doesnt look like it but why are you cutting metal without lubrication? You get a lot better surface cut and you dont break your bits...

Was that a steel cutting hole saw? It looked (and sounded) like that wasn't the task it was made for. I guess if it were a wood cutter, but that's the one time you were planning to use it for that purpose it might work on mild steel okay. how did you manage to finish the hole?
