Introduction: Elegant Apple Roses

About: Hi, I'm Lizzy Bennet! Not the one from Longbourn, but a Fitzwilliam Darcy fan nonetheless. I am a teacher and a vinedresser by profession, and enjoy reading and cooking in my spare time.

These Apple Pie Roses are so adorable! They are very easy to make, and they would be perfect for a tea party or bridal shower!

Some people use Puff Pastry, but I make mine with homemade pastry dough.

Supplies

Ingredients:

  • Homemade Pastry Dough (pie crust)
  • Honey
  • Apples
  • Sugar/Cinnamon
  • Egg wash
  • Shortening
  • Powdered Sugar (optional)

Tools:

  • Cutting board/knife
  • Cookie sheet
  • Oven
  • Muffin tin

Step 1: Roll Out the Pie Dough

Roll the Pastry Dough very thin.

Step 2: Wash, Core, Cut, and Bake the Apples

Wash as many apples as you think you will need for the amount of dough you have. (I made six mini pies, and I used about 3 apples). Now core the apples, and cut them in half as shown. Lay them face down on the cutting board, and slice into 1/8 inch slices. Then place them on a cookie sheet, and bake at 350 degrees (Fahrenheit) for 5-10 minutes.

Step 3: Cut the Dough

Now straighten up the edges of the dough, then cut into strips that are about 3 inches by 12 inches.

Step 4: Spread With Honey, Place Apples, and Fold

Put honey along the bottom of each strip. Then overlap the apples along the top edge, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and fold the dough over to 'sandwich' the apples. (see pictures)

Step 5: Roll It Up!

Roll up the folded strip, and it will produce this cute rose!

Step 6: Bake

Grease mini muffin tins, and place the roses in them. Brush with the egg wash, and bake at 350 for about 40 minutes, or until firm and golden!

After you remove them from the oven, and your pies are cool, you can sprinkle powdered sugar on them!
