Introduction: Fidget Spinner - Wrench Spinner
Hello everyone,
In this project I want to show you how to make a Fidget Spinner "Wrench Spinner". I made a video and step by step instruction how to make it.
You can 3d print or mill it.
So, let's get started :)
Materials:
- bearings
- chunk of aluminium
- filament
- sandpaper
- polishing paste
Tools:
- 3d printer
- milling machine
- sandpaper
Step 1: Watch the Video
Video will give you a good overview on how to create a Fidget Spinner "Wrench Spinner". But the following steps will still contain some extra useful information.
Step 2: 3D Model
First, I've made a 3D project in the Autodesk Inventor. This fidget spinner works with standard skateboard bearing (608 bearing). Model is made for 3D printing and milling. You can download Inventor files below.
Step 3: 3D Printing
Download the STL files and print it :) But, I prepared 3 models of spinner. First is normal 3 arms solid. Second, has 33 holes for steel balls from bearing inside. Thanks to this, the spinner weight more and can spin longer. If you want to print the heavier version, you have to write a few gcode lines like on the picture. And third, 2 arms spinner.
Step 4: Assembly the Printed Parts and Spinn
Connect spinner, bearing and caps together. And spin it :)
Step 5: Milling
Material to milling is aluminium. Gcode was generated in Autodesk HSM CAM, it's plugin for Inventor. I made two arms, three arms fidgets and caps.
Step 6: Tabs, Sanding, Polishing
After milling spinners don't look good. So, remove the tabs. Next use sandpaper to improve surfaces and edges. To sanding the caps you can use a drill, it will be faster. If you want to get a shining surface use a polishing paste. The result will be really good.
Step 7: Connect the All Parts Together
Insert the bearing and caps into the spinner. The vise can help you very much. To secure the caps from falling out, I made a thread in both caps.
Step 8: Finish
Your Fidget Spinner is completely finished :)
Now you can spinn all day or use it like a wrench ;)
You did it!
