Installing a flexible chimney liner is something most handy people can do themselves. Follow this guide and you will be able to handle the project.

You will need the following:

flexible chimney liner
work gloves
caulk/caulk gun
snips or hacksaw
tape measure
knife
screw driver
a drill might be nice, but not necessary

Step 1: Remove All Chimney Liner Parts From Packaging

Caution: Metal edges can be sharp, make sure to wear protective gloves when handling the liner and liner components.

Also make sure your chimney has been cleared of all debris before installing the liner.

Step 2: Unroll Chimney Liner Coil

It usually helps to have a second person to unroll the liner. While one person is holding one end, the other person unrolls the chimney liner keeping firm pressure down to get it to lay flat. After you unroll the chimney liner you may need to work some areas to get it as straight as you like. Be patient and work the liner in the needed areas.

Step 3: Attach Bottom Termination

Next you will attach a tee or stove connector to your liner. The bottom termination will include a hose clamp that tightens to the chimney liner.

Step 4: Insulate the Chimney Liner

Unroll your chimney liner insulation next to your liner. Lay the liner in the middle of the blanket. Once you have everything centered spray the liner and insulation side of the blanket with spray glue. This will help keep the blanket in place while you tape up the seam.

Pull the insulation tight around the chimney liner and lay short pieces of tape across to the seam to hold it in place. Once you get that done the entire length of the chimney liner, lay one continuous length of tape down the seam of the blanket.

Step 5: Install Wire Mesh

The wire mesh as part of the chimney liner insulation kit is design to help protect the insulation blanket from being torn as you push it down the chimney.

This part will take some time as you have to pull the mesh over the liner, kind of like you are putting a giant sock on the chimney liner. It helps by putting a ball on the side you are putting the mesh on first. This deflects it away from any hard edges and keeps it from getting caught up on the end.

Step 6: Installing a Tee

If you are installing the chimney liner for a fireplace insert then you will not need to worry about this step.

You need to get the vertical part of the tee to go through the hose clamp on the horizontal part of the tee. It's best to have an assistant for this part. They can guide the vertical part of the tee through the tee snout as you push the liner down from the roof.

Once the liner is positioned correctly, tighten the hose clamp on the tee snout to complete the bottom termination.
