Introduction: Flying Phone Case - FPC

About: Time + Wood = Me

Welcome to an instructable that will teach you how to make a

Flying Phone Case, or FPC as it will be called throughout the rest of this tutorial. The first step you need to do is find materials. For this project you will need:

  • Wood roughly as thick as your phone.
  • An electric saw
  • A pencil
  • A ruler/meter

Step 1: Drawing Your Plane

The first step to making a FPC is drawing out your plane.

Start by tracing your phone onto your wood. Then make a rough sketch of what you want the plane to look like. Thicken the lines once you draw your sketch and try to make it as symmetrical as possible. Keeping the design simple is the key to success because it minimizes mistakes, but if you want to get fancy you can design your plane on a computer then print out your design.

Step 2: Cutting Your Plane

Once you’ve drawn out your design get cutting. This is

probably possible to cut with a hack saw (especially if you buy soft wood) but an electric saw makes this process 100 times easier. Using a clean cut blade and having your speed set to medium leaves little to no chips on the wood making life so much better.

Note – I am no professional when it comes to wood and cutting, I’m just saying this from the little experience that I have, if I said something wrong please do point it out to me so I don’t lead people in the wrong direction. Thanks!

Step 3: Sanding Your Plane

Once you cut your FPC san down the edges, especially the top

of the wings. Sand down any marks you made on the wood earlier that are now useless and round off any sharp corners (unless if you meant for the corners to be sharp).

Step 4: Gluing Your Plane

You’re almost done! All that’s left to do is to glue down

the rudder and some wood to hold your phone in place. I used hot glue since it dries fairly fast sticks to wood well and can also be used to fill space if your phone doesn’t fit well. Once I glued everything down I put a thin layer of glue down onto my phone holding wood for a snug fit.

Step 5: Your DONE!!!

And BAMMM!!! You’re done with your Flying Phone! But you’re

probably not too keen on throwing your Galaxy s8 edge in a homemade wooden phone case that’s roughly shaped like an airplane, don’t worry! The phone case also makes a good stand for your phone. Just lay the plane down on a table and rest your phone against the rudder, instant phone stand.
