Introduction: Foldable Newspaper Curtain

Curtains are essential for our homes and offices. They protect us from direct sunlight and keep our space cool. They also offer various benefits like privacy, security etc. Though curtains in general, are affordable, their price depends on the material used, size and the thickness of the curtain. The purpose of this instructable is to help you create your own foldable DIY curtain that costs you none.

Essentials:

  1. Daily Newspaper
  2. Stapler
  3. Sellotape
  4. Ball pin or safety pin
  5. Jump clips

Step 1: Positioning Leaflets

Measure the width and height of your window. Take two leaflets from your newspaper and place one over the other such that the width of the curtain is equal to the width of the window. Make sure that you position them in portrait. If not, the curtain cannot be folded. Place another couple of leaflets below the first two such that the total height of the curtain is equal to the height of your window.

Step 2: Securing the Leaflets

With the help of a stapler, join all the four sheets at the points shown in the figure. Now, join sheets 3 and 4 alone with a jump clip. Additionally, for safety, secure all the four sheets as shown in the figure with the help of a ball pin. Once all the sheets are connected, flip the curtain and stick a strip of sellotape connecting leaflets 1,2 and 3,4 as shown in the figure. Voila! the curtain is ready.

Step 3: Mounting the Curtain

Once the curtain is ready, it can either be glued to the window or left hanging, by jamming a small portion of the curtain between the window and its frame. It can also be folded upwards and secured using jump clips like in the figure. If you want your room to be dark, add more layers of newspaper leaflets to make the curtain opaque.
