About: Michael's Test Kitchen - FOOD - SUGAR - RECIPES

This dish of Garlic Baked Asparagus is extremely easy, delicious, and healthy. Mix it up with a few ingredients, then throw it into your oven. (no, not literally).

Step 1: Preheat Oven to 400 Degrees

...Preheat Oven to 400 degrees

Step 2: Ingredients

1 good sized bunch of asparagus (see picture for reference)

3 cloves of garlic

1 generous sprinkling of salt

Optional: You can add any different kind of seasoning based on your tastes, ie. 'garlic salt', or 'pepper'...

Step 3: Asparagus First

Place cleaned asparagus on a rimmed baking sheet.

Step 4: Preparing Garlic

You can use your hands, or if you have this handy green silicone tube (mine is OXO) then it will be three times as easy to peel your garlic.

You can mince your garlic with a knife (the hard way) and get all of the garlic, or you can put it in a press (the easy way) and waste a bit of it.

Once minced/pressed, sprinkle garlic evenly over asparagus. Don't worry about this part too much--you'll be stirring it in with your hands soon.

Step 5: Salt, Oil, and Stir

Sprinkle salt generously over the whole of the asparagus. Then Pour about a 1/4 cups worth evenly over the dish. Stir asparagus thoroughly with your hands to incorporate all added ingredients in with the asparagus.

Step 6: Bake

Bake in preheated oven (400 degrees) for about 15 minutes.

Step 7: Done!

serve warm

I'm pretty sure this dish is good but, for me, there are two issues here with this receipe.

    1) Asparagus is a so fine product, with an original taste of its own that will be killed by the garlic perfume.

    2) Roasted garlic has a really bad taste, try to avoid it when possible. If not, boil it before and remove the middle green part.

I absolutely love baked asparagus, and so does my son!! Don't let anyone fool you though, roasted garlic is delicious!! I always use garlic and salt when I bake my asparagus (with a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of a few lemon wedges too). But the garlic is my favorite addition in most every dish. Sometimes I roast a whole head in the oven by slicing off the top half inch of the whole head, drizzling olive oil over the top so it seeps into the individual cloves and then sprinkle some salt and pepper over the top, wrap it in some foil and bake anywhere from 350-400° until the cloves are soft (usually 15-30 min depending on the size of the garlic).
