Introduction: Glove Box Wonder

The Glove Box Wonder is an idea that I had Yesterday Morning. I have always had a messy car and bits and bobs everywhere . The idea behind the Glove Box Wonder is that it keeps all the important things for the car in one place, There is even a secret lock for the most expensive items (sat nav etc). This was made up as it went along, so I have tried my best to things in the correct order and point out the mistake that was made along the way. This Instructable is my very first and I'm not a diy person at all (you will see) , So please be patient with me and follow each step the best you can so that you can follow these instructions and build your own Glove Box Wonder.

Step 1: Tools & Materials

  • Set square
  • Hand saw
  • Screw driver
  • Drill
  • Bench
  • Tape measure
  • Hammer
  • 3 bit and 6.5 bit drill pieces
  • Screws
  • Pencil
  • Nails
  • Sandpaper
  • 1 old drawer
  • 1 small hinge
  • 1 maglock
  • Magnets to check (I have purchased a neodymium magnet keyring £1.25 of ebay)
  • Black spray can

all these tools and materials I had around the house so cost was a total £1.25 for keyring

Step 2: Measuring and Cuting

The first thing to do is to measure your Glovebox. Because everybody is different. Then use your dimension to mark out all the pieces you will need, I used an old pine drawer that was going to the tip for the wood, In hindsight my planning should of been better, A straight edge was used so all pieces were right, After all pieces are cut start the horrible task of sanding all the edges (note to self invest in a sander).

Step 3: Building the Box

Arrange the pieces to fit in the right order, Pre drill a couple of pilot holes at each joint and screw the thing together. Draw the outline twice of the box on some backboard and carefully cut out this will be the top and bottom of our wonder box . Small nail were used to put the bottom on, Now was the time I decided to make little compartments, so I used a scrap bit of wood and sanded to make little rails for a shelf, and added a middle wall (please look at pics I'm not the best at this). I then began to measure the area and cut a little shelf out of the backboard. In the large compartment was the idea to put a sliding wall, so it can be one large area or two smaller areas. This was achieved my cutting a small piece of wood in half and sandwiching some backboard in and screwing to the bottom base. As the top went on there was something missing a area only I knew how to get into.

Step 4: The Secret Door

To start the door measure the gap that you want to cover. Put the dimension on to a piece of wood and cut. I had some maglocks in the drawer and deciede to use them only proplem I didn't know how to install them so the following Guide was handy. The hinge was the last thing to put on.

Step 5: What to Put In

The next thing I thought about was what to put in the Wonder glovebox, I decided to put thing in that was handy/important to me.
