This is a very simple tutorial on how to carve a pumpkin. I used Gravity Sketch to illustrate the steps.

Here is the list of materials you will need for this project:

-Pumpkin

-Sharpie

-Something to remove the sharpie marks form the pumpkin (like alcohol)

-A big spoon

-A small knife with big teeth

-A candle

Step 1: Designing Your Pumpkin's Face

The best part of carving a pumpkin is that you can design its face. You can make it scary, funny, or very artistic.

For this instructables I decided to carve a typical face.

Remember to wash the pumpkin before you start.

With your sharpie mark the face of your pumpkin. This will help you as a cutting guide.

At the top mark either a circle or a zigzag circle. You will also be cutting that part. Think of it as the pumpkin's hat. This whole will help us to remove all the insides and eventually place the candle that will light our pumpkin's face.

Step 2: Insides Out!

With the knife cut the top circle to open the top of the pumpkin.

With the spoon scrape the insides out. At first it will be hard to remove the insides from the pumpkins wall but keep scarping and you will be able to leave them clean.

Step 3: The Face

Cut the face you previously drew.

Step 4: The Light

Once you are done cutting the face erase the remaining sharpie lines, rinse your pumpkin to clean it and dry it.

Place the candle inside the pumpkin and voila!

Place the pumpkin outside of your house and wait for the trick or treaters to come.

Happy Halloween!!!
