Introduction: Heath Bar Chocolate Trifle!

About: Hi! I'm Anna and I love being creative- in lots of aspects! I absolutely love making and decorating cakes. I have nine younger siblings, which is awesome, especially when it comes to making cakes, because ther…

First things first! Don't think that I wrote "health" up there. This is not in any way healthy- but, man, it's good! The pudding and the cool whip mixed together gives the perfect taste, and then add the brownies as well and it's spectacular! Yum! Yum! Yum! I hope you like this trifle just as much as I did because, let me tell you, all the work (and it isn't much work at all) that you put into this trifle is worth it!!!

Step 1: What You Need

For Brownies:

  • 1 1/2 cups oat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup water (optional)
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips

For Trifle:

  • 2 (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding
  • Milk- amount varies depending on chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 (8 ounces) containers of cool whip
  • Hershey's chocolate syrup
  • 6 heath bars

Utensils:

  • Small saucepan
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Bowl
  • 8x8 cake pan
  • Trifle bowl or, if you don't have one (like me!), then use something like this.

Step 2: Beginning Steps for Brownie

Take your butter and melt it in the saucepan over low heat. When finished melting, add the sugar. Stir until well incorporated and then leave on heat for about a minute more to slightly melt the sugar into the butter. After the minute, take the saucepan off the heat and add your cocoa powder. Let me tell you when you are done stirring, this chocolaty mix is not going to look very appetizing. But if you taste it, yum! It's so yummy and chocolaty! Now add your vanilla. Vanilla makes everything better!

Step 3: Making It More Chocolaty!

Add your eggs to the chocolate mix and beat. This might take a little bit of time since the eggs had a tendency of staying together and the chocolate mix had a tendency of sticking by itself- or at least that was my experience! Beat the two things together until soon, then add your oat flour. This will thicken it a lot and give it a better texture. I found that it became too thick, so adding water helped.

Before you add your chocolate chips, you might want to let the brownie mix cool, depending on how hot it is. Otherwise, then chocolate chips will melt into the brownie mix and you'll lose the texture you're going for. Once the brownie mix is cooled down a little, add the chocolate chips and mix well so that they are spread all throughout the batter.

Step 4: Bake Your Brownies

With the batter finished, grease the cake pan and transfer all the batter into it. Preheat oven to 350° Farenheight. When it's warmed up, stick the brownies in. Set timer for forty-five minutes. When the timer rings, check brownies to see if they are finished with a toothpick. When you are sure that it's done, pull out of the oven and set to cool. It is not going to look very pretty at all! But that really doesn't matter at all!

When the brownies are cooled enough for handling, begin pulling the brownies out of the pan. It doesn't matter at all if they break on the way. I literally just took a spoon and began scraping it out. If you don't like that idea, feel free to take the brownies out and cut into squares. That's one way I've heard people do it, but I really don't feel like it's worth the "effort" to cut it all into perfect little 1 inch squares!

Step 5: Chocolate Pudding

Set aside the brownies, and now turn to the pudding. This can't be more simple. Follow the directions on the pudding boxes to make the puddings, then stick in the refrigerator to cool.

Step 6: Cut Your Heath Bars

Take your heath bars and cut. They'll naturally crumble when you cut into them, so don't even try to make fancy squares. Keep cutting the heath bars until they are all little crumbly pieces. Set aside.

Step 7: Assembling the Trifle

Begin with your crumbled brownies. Take up to half of them to layer the bottom, then set aside the rest for the second layer. Now take half of your chocolate pudding and spread it over the brownies. Add about 3/4 of the cool whip on top of the pudding, and spread to cover it completely. Now take the chocolate syrup and drizzle a bit of it over the cool whip. You're going to want to spread it out of the cool whip with a spoon, just to make it even. Then, add a handful (not half) of the heath bars!

Repeat the process again, and this time around, finish the heath bars. Then, drizzle over a little bit of the chocolate syrup in whatever shake you like!

Step 8: Enjoy!

You are done! I hope you enjoy eating this wonderful treat! One thing that I wanted to that would be yummy in the trifle is espresso powder or coffee. It would flow right in with the chocolate and creamy flavors that are already in this dessert! If you wanted to do that, add coffee instead of water, or espresso powder with the flour. I didn't use coffee or espresso powder in this recipe because my younger siblings were eating it and my mom didn't really want me to you it. "They'll have enough energy with all the chocolate and sugar, they don't need caffeine as well!" is what she said.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and please vote for me in the gluten-free challenge!
