Introduction: His and Hers Toothpaste
I love receiving feedback and advice, and ever since my family and friends heard that I'm getting married, I've been getting a lot of it! It really is a good thing, so if you have some good advice, go ahead and send it my way in the comments! I can tell you that the most common bit of advice that I've received, is that we will fight over the stupidest things, like what end to squeeze the toothpaste. In an effort to solve at least one problem before it arises, I headed to my shop with toothpaste in hand. After a bit a time fidgeting with this and that, a two end tube of toothpaste dubbed His and Hers Toothpaste was born.
Step 1: Parts and Tools
Parts:
- Full tube of toothpaste
- Empty tube of toothpaste (same size as full tube)
Tools:
- Knife or scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Heat gun (hair dryer might work as well)
Step 2: Cut Empty Tube
Cut the empty tube of toothpaste leaving a little bit of tube to be glued in the following steps.
Step 3: Clean Cap
Clean this section of tube thoroughly to get a good bond between the tubes.
Step 4: Cut New Tube
Cut the seal off the new tube of toothpaste. Make this cut as straight as possible, it'll show once glued.
Step 5: Clean
Wipe and clean the inside of the full tube as best you can. This will allow the strongest cohesion.
Step 6: Glue
Apply a healthy amount of glue on the empty tube cap.
Step 7: Position
Since hot glue tends to harden possibly before the extra cap is in place, you can use the heat gun to re-position the new cap till it is where is should be. Use on lowest setting so that the printing on the outside of the tube doesn't crack.
If anyone knows of a more suitable food safe glue please suggest it in the comments!
Step 8: Enjoy
Enjoy your more harmonious home with this argument free tube of His and Hers Toothpaste!

I like your idea about the his and her toothpaste tube. However, it would be so simple to just buy two tubes, put a pink rubber band on one and a blue on the other. Now about the advice. You may not understand this, but please try, it will be really helpful. In college I watched a film about a bank robbery, after it was over, they asked the tellers to describe the robbers. They all had different descriptions. Do you know why? Because they saw the robbers through their own eyes, their own internal filters (depending on their education and up-bringing). You will see your bride through your own filters. There may be nothing wrong with her at all, but "your stuff" left over from childhood is clouding your vision. My suggestion is to not criticize her at all and look at yourself. What you are blaming on her....could you have that trait?
Are YOU rude? messy? Forgetful? Clean up your own act. This advice goes for all of us, me included. Change begins with the man in the mirror...we've heard that before. Be kind and pray a lot.

The category of this project should be art. Very creative thinking!

Cute!

I like the idea, but what happens when you're both making your way from one end to the other, and now neither person can get that last bit?

Cute idea, but would you have to do this with every tube? Sounds like a lot of work. I just make the toothpaste my husband and I use and store it in a jar.
Congrats on the wedding. :) As for advise and such, like the others said, don't worry too much about the little things. You'll just drive each other insane for no reason.
Oh, and take time to be silly. A bit of laughter every now and then is good, especially after hitting a rough patch.

But you need to incorporate some sort of alarm, that will EITHER notify whoever does the shopping that the other person is using up all the toothpaste, OR will remind the almost-the-last user that there is another person who still has to brush his/her teeth.
Also, unrelated to toothpaste, but an important piece of advice - before you get married, ask the other person whether a garage sale is something you GO TO, or something you HAVE.

My husband has no interest in either going to or having a garage sale. I wonder, though, how many bits of kitsch are purchased at one garage sale and promptly resold at the next...

Harmonious home, this is a good thing. I wonder what will this toothpaste tube look like with a few kids?!
Reply 7 years ago on Introduction
Tell the kids to use their own toothpaste!

What if she and he like different brands of toothpaste??
Reply 7 years ago on Introduction
Then there's no arguing (over that at least)... Guess how I know ;)

It would be sweet to measure the pitch of the threads and make an adapter for refilling from a separate new tube...if you don't want to have to re-glue every time you are empty.
Also, not married, so no advice there. Congratulations!

The best advice I can give you after 31 years of being happily married, is don't sweat the small stuff. Toothpaste tubes are very small. Being best friends and always having each others back no matter what, is most important! Congrats!

arguing over iddy bitty stupid stuff like toothpaste is a waste of energy and time, just as long as it's not wasted...sure caps get gunked up or lost but hey! save the used caps and PRESTO caps found! I hate arguing over anything...congratulations & wish you two the best!

a woman who argues about toothpaste squeezing will find something else to educate you on straight after you fix the tube.....

This in no way solves your problem! With this tube of toothpaste you will be wrong regardless of where you squeeze it from!
