Many people like soda, but they don't like the feeling of their lip scraping against the tab. I am one of those people, and for a long time, I considered buying the as seen on TV bottle tops (which essentially turn your can into a bottle) in the link here: http://www.asseenontvguys.com/bottle-tops.aspx. Instead of spending money and buying my own bottle tops, I decided to make my own bottle top for free! I had all of the materials and you probably will too, so lets get started on building your free bottle top!

I was inspired to make this because....

- I don't like drinking straight from a soda can.
- I didn't want to pay for the commercial bottle tops.
- I had all of the materials needed on hand.

You should make this because....

- It is cheap and simple to make.
- It requires few basic materials.
- It will save you money by not buying commercial bottle tops.

I hope you enjoy making your very own bottle tops!

Step 1: Materials/ Tools

You will need....

- An empty water bottle
- A soda can
- 4-5 rubber bands
- Scissors

Step 2: Preparing the Bottle

Cut your bottle about where I cut mine in the picture. It may seem big, but we will need it to be big so it can slide onto the can. Using the scissors, cut slits on the line that you just cut and make sure that the slits go about 1 cm in.

Now we have to test this part of the topper. Try to slide this over the top of the can. It may take a little force, but eventually it should be able to slide over the top of the can nice and snug.

Step 3: Making the Seal

We can't stop building it now because the soda will leak through the edges of the topper. In order to stop the leaking we must build a gasket on the can made of rubber bands. Take your first rubberband and wrap it around the can. To the same with a few more of them. I used three. Make sure you put the rubber bands right about where I put mine in the picture.

Now we have to make sure that the bottle still fits with the rubber bands on. If it is too loose, add more rubber bands. If it is too tight take off a rubber band.

Step 4: Putting the Topper on the Can

Now that you have buiilt your gasket, you are ready to put the topper on the can. To put this on, slide the top of the bottle over the gasket and take another rubber band, and use it to hold the bottle topper onto the can. You are now finished!

To test your can, try drinking some soda from it. If it doesn't leak, congratulations, you have finished your bottle topper! If it does leak, then you may want to add more rubber bands to your gasket so you have a tight seal!
