Introduction: Homemade Burger Buns

What better way to serve a burger, than with a fresh, healthy and tasty burger bun, that just came out of the oven? This is my favorite burger bun recipe - and it is easy to make. This recipe gave me 19 burger buns, and that is great for a big family. If you do not live with many others (or if you want to eat them yourself ;) ), they are great for lunch sandwiches or for freezing as well.

Ingredients:

- 50 g of Yeast

- 6 dl of tepid water

- 2 teaspoons of salt

- 3 teaspoons of sugar

- 500 g of rye flour

- 700 g of flour

- 1 egg

- 1 dl of oil

- Thyme

Step 1: Make the Dough

First you need to activate the yeast, by crumbling it in a bowl and then adding tepid water. With a bit of care dissolve the yeast with a spoon. When the yeast and water are one fluid, add the other ingredients. Add the flour little by little. When the dough is too stiff to stir with the spoon, use your hands to work it. Remember to be careful – the yeast is a living organism, and they need the right circumstances to flourish and make your dough awesome and light. Work the dough in steady, round movements with both hands – do not rip or tear it.

When the dough is smooth, put it aside to rise for an hour – or more if you have the time. If you have a spot in your home with heat in the floor I find that it works well, as the yeast needs a bit of warmth.

Step 2: Baking

My dough rose nicely to around double size, and this makes the heavy rye dough lighter. Take a small handful of dough and shape a round piece of dough. Place it on a baking tray and push the round dough pieces a bit on the top to make them flat. Then wash the buns with milk or eggs. I used milk, but they would have been more golden looking with an egg wash. Add a bit of thyme to make it look delicious and to spread a heavenly smell from your oven.

Bake the buns for 10-40 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.

Step 3: Enjoy!

And then you’ve finished the cooking and are ready to enjoy the product of the work. Burgers are perfect for the summer time and for inviting a couple of friends over for a BBQ.I hope you liked this little baking project and that you will give it a try! ^^
