Homemade Dog Treats to Beat Bad Breath

So, did you just bring home a new puppy and realize puppy breath isnt really as sweet as people say? Or did your all grown up puppy think eating that dead thing, dirty diaper, or litter box treat was a great idea. Well now you can make then a yummy little snack that will kick that bad breath right out the door. No longer be afraid of those wonderful puppy kisses.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

You will Need:
Whole wheat flour
Fresh Parsley
Fresh Mint or pure mint extract
one egg
vegetable oil
Milk
Rolling pin
Mixing bowl
cookie sheet

Optional:
Cookie Cutters

Dont forget the sweet little doggie with dumpster breath.

Step 2: Recipe

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup finely chopped parsley ( 1 whole cup if using mint extract instead of leaves)
1/2 cup finely chopped mint or 1/4 tsp of extract
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
3 tbsp vegetable oil

Mix Ingredients together in large mixing bowl. (I used a food processor thing to make the parsley really fine) Mix together until it makes a thick dough. Dough may look flakey, if it wont hold together gradually add small amounts of water until it hold into a ball when pressed with hands. Roll out onto a floured board or counter top. The thinner its rolled the more crispy the treats will be and the more you will be able to get from one batch. Choose a cookie cutter, i used mini cookie cutter from a Noah's ark set i got for my baby shower (only the bear) Or you cal roll into a small ball and press flat with your hands.
Preheat oven to 350 and lay your treats onto an un-greased baking sheet. I put tin foil on top of mine for easy clean up. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. (golden brown may be hard to detect because of the brown color of the dough so nay attention)
Some thicker treats may retain a springy feel but thats ok.

Step 3: Treat Time!!

Remove from oven and allow to cool. Place treats Into container and search out your eager puppies and let them decide. Treats wont take all the smell away with just one treat. But with only one there is marked improvement. Sorry for the low quality Images. I had to use my cellphone because my three year old wanted to take pictures of the potty.... and i think you can all guess how that ended up.

awe cute puppy my puppy likes to eat out off the trash a lot so I have a solution to bad puppy breath but he's so sweet and loves naps so I can't stay made at him for long

My dogs are very picky as well, but they like these...especially if it's the only treat I'm offering at the time and I make them do a trick for it, it's their reward....hope it helps

I haven't thought of any off hand. but you could possibly crush beef or chicken bouillon into them, but that can easily override the effectiveness of the parsley

they should freeze up to a few months. 1 or 2 or 3. depending on how airtight you wrap them.

I'd suggest using rice flour instead of wheat. Wheat's not great for dogs.

I did consider that, but my local store didn't have any rice flour. So i kept the treats small. I chose whole wheat because it would go down easier then processed white flour. And i already knew my dog doesn't have a wheat allergy unlike my cat. but thanks for the info. I still look for the rice flour when the thought pops in my head.

These came out great, I used a medicine cup as a cookie cutter, and had perfect sized treats for 9 week old pups, though Dozer is pickier than Lugnut, here's to hoping that Dozer learns to enjoy the treats as well.

by the way my dog prefers these treats to normal store bought ones! thanks for the recipe! and uhh... i left a few of them in a Ziploc on my counter and my ol man came midnight snacking and well ate a few of them i asked him in the morning "why is half the dog treats gone?" and he was like "i thought those were biscuits or something are you telling me they are dog treats?" it was funny

lol i remember when my border collie Australian Shepard was a puppy and he was so small and cute! lol he used to sit on my lap and i would hold him like a baby it was so cute he was so small back then and now he weighs like 80 pounds heheheh i still put him on my lap! by the way my dog loves the treats i made them last night and he totally likes em' and they work better than the store bought dog mints! lol

great im so glad to hear. I ended up winging the recipe because i didn't have everything that the other recipes i found online had so i just used them as a guideline. The puppies above are a mix of Chiweenie (chihuahua and dachshund) and papillon. So they only get max of 15 lbs. my Papillon is huge.

Nice! I use a small biscuit cutter which speeds up production. I also found that I had to make small batches because the treats will go bad in this hot and humid weather. I also store them in a refrigerator. Thanks.
