Introduction: Homemade Hootch/Pruno

About: I'm interested in primitive skills and homeless urban skills.
If you've ever wanted to make your own alcohol then pay attention, because I'm about to show you how.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

You'll need these materials or simply substitute them as you wish, but your results may vary.

2 liter pop bottle
Yeast -beer yeast
Fruit- frozen juice concentrate, fresh or canned
Sugar -2 cups
Water

That's it!!! Easy huh!

Step 2: Make a Recipe

Using a recipe makes trouble shooting the flavor easier the more times you make some hootch. This example is just that. I've made hooch from all kinds of stuff. It's even possible to make it from already bottled juice like "juicy juice".

Step 3: Mix It All Together

Add some water. Add the 2 cups of sugar. Add your fruit. Add your yeast. Now top it up with water but leave some space for the fruit to foam up. It's important to realize something here. The more fruit pulp that is in the 2 liter, the more space near the top that you'll need to leave! Now close the cap tightly and shake it vigorously to mix up the sugar.
***Now uncap the bottle and set the cap "VERY LOOSELY" on top of the bottle! If you leave it tight, you'll have a sugary mess to clean up because the bottle will explode if you don't!

Step 4: Let It Ferment

After you add the yeast, it'll take 24-48 hours for it to start to ferment. The room temperature is important. If its too hot it won't ferment, or slow to ferment. If its too cold it'll be slow to ferment. The best temperature I found is between 75-80 degrees.

Step 5: Wait! Then Drink, Enjoy!

It'll take about 2-3 weeks for it to ferment. If you can wait 2-3 weeks - lol, the yeast will start to settle to the bottom of the 2 liter bottle. You can slowly pour off the clearer liquid or use a piece of fish tank hose to siphon it. Either way now is the time to enjoy the fruits of your efforts.
If you drink it as time goes by, you'll notice the sugar content will "decrease" and the alcohol content "increases". That's because yeast eat the sugar and excrete alcohol as a waste product. That's what we're after! Now go get messed up! Enjoy! :)
