Introduction: Honey Dessert Noodles (Crispy Asian Dessert)

Crispy Honey Noodles are a staple Asian dessert. They're very easy to make, can be made in bulk, and store well too.
Traditionally known as 'Darsaan', this is one of my favourite desserts. It's usually served with vanilla ice-cream, but I always prefer chocolate over all other flavours.

Supplies

Makes 2 servings-

  • Noodles- 1 cup
  • Honey- 2 tbsp
  • Butter- 1 tbsp
  • Sugar- 1 tbsp
  • Water- 1 tbsp
  • Almonds- 4-5 (chopped)
  • Walnuts- 4-5 (chopped)
  • Sesame seeds- 1tsp (optional)
  • Ice cream - 1 scoop per person
  • oil for frying the noodles

Step 1: Boil the Noodles

Take a large container, fill 3 quarters of it with water and put in about 1 tsp of salt in it. Let it come to a boil then put your dry noodles in it and boil them as per the instructions on the pack. (mine took about 8 minutes)

Step 2: Fry the Noodles

Once the noodles are boiled, dry them on some paper towels and remove all possible moisture.

Then slowly drop them in your frying oil in small batches and fry them till they're crispy and golden in colour (about 6-8 minutes). Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

You can fry the noodles and store them in an airtight container for upto 2 days in the fridge.

Step 3: Make the Honey Sauce

While the noodles are frying, in a small saucepan, add the butter and gently heat it till melts. Then add the sugar and the water and cook it till it caramelises and turns light brown in colour
Then add the honey and keep stirring on low flame for a few minutes. Then add half the sesame seeds, and all the almonds and walnuts.

  • If your sesame seeds are not roasted, roast them over low heat in a pan and let them cool before adding. Sesame seeds have a peculiar flavour, so if you want to skip them completely, it's perfectly fine.
  • Soak the almonds in water the night before so that they absorb the water and swell up. If you forget to soak them the previous night, just blanch them in really hot water for a few minutes, then remove the peel and chop them.

Step 4: Assemble the Dessert and Enjoy!

Gently crush the fried noodles into smaller segments, then drop them in the hot honey sauce pan to coat them properly.

Place them in a bowl, top with a scoop of ice-cream and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top! You can add more honey or chocolate sauce on top too.
Enjoy your crispy honey noodles!

Storage tips- you can make the fried noodles and store them in an airtight container for upto 2 days.
The honey sauce can also be made in advance and stored in airtight containers. Heat the sauce before serving then coat the noodles and plate the dessert.
