Introduction: How to Equip Shock Landing Gear for Your Drone

Let’s face it, crashes happen, so before taking your drone
to the sky you should equip it with shock absorbing gear in case it gets into one.

Firstly you can buy plenty of shock absorbing pads on Ebay. All of which will provide better comfort for your drone.

However, for now we will be looking at the ‘zip tie’ model of shock absorption which is incredibly easy to implement and is much more effective than buying standardised equipment from the internet.

Firstly you need to buy some cables ties.

Step 1: Cable Ties

You’ll want to use the thinnest ones you can get as these
have less weight and will not force strain on your drone, thus shortening the battery life.

Step 2: Making the Legs

Attach the cables like so and tape them down so that they
are steady.

From here on make sure that they all are of the same length
and that the drone sits steadily so that problems are not caused with it’s calibration during take-off.

The only problem that may occur from this is that adding too much tape can increase the drones weight and, should it get caught in a tree, the drone may loop onto a branch and be harder to get back. However, if the tape is weaker because you haven’t used too much it may tear the loop out and you should be able to recover the drone easily.

Step 3: The Final Build

In the end your drone should look like this.

Now it will land softly anywhere, be it hard surfaces or grass and cause no damage to your drone. No more devastating crashes and you can fly with one less worry on your mind.
