Introduction: How to Create a Pineapple

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

In this project, we will use the ruler tool. The ruler tool is helpful whenever precision is important. It can also be used as another way to scale and move an object. With the ruler tool numbers can be changed directly instead of using the handles.

Here is a good reference photo to use to make a pineapple.

Instructions

  1. Place an Egg, Cylinder, and Half Sphere shapes onto the workplane.
  2. With the egg selected, hold Shift and scale the base of the egg to 45mm.
  3. The cylinder needs to be the same diameter as the egg. Press R to switch to the ruler tool. Left click on the workplane to place the ruler to the left of the objects. Select the cylinder and you will see a bunch of measurements and numbers. Left click on the X axis number shown in the image, and change it to 45. Do this for the Y axis number as well.
  4. Select both the cylinder and the egg. Go to the Adjust menu and choose Align. Align them so they share a center on the X and Y axis.
  5. Turn the cylinder a hole object from the Inspector, in the upper right corner. Scale the cylinder up so it is about half the height of the egg. Look for a thin white line. A green arrow is pointing to it in the image.
  6. This is where the egg is widest. Scale the top of the cylinder down to meet that line.
  7. With the cylinder selected, choose Duplicate from the edit menu. Add the egg to the select by holding shift and left clicking once on the egg. Group them together.
  8. Select the remaining cylinder and egg and change their color to a golden brown.
  9. Select the half sphere and change the width and length to 45mm, and the height to 6mm.
  10. Rotate the half sphere 180 degrees so the top faces down.

  11. Align the half sphere with the cylinder and egg. Change it's color to the same gold brown.

Step 1: Create the Leaves

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

  1. Place a pyramid and square onto the workplane.
  2. Turn the box into a hole so that we can see through it. Select both the pyramid and box and align them on the X and Y axis.
  3. Move the pyramid up so it's base rests on top of the square. Scale the pyramid up about 35mm.
  4. Select them both and rotate 90 degrees on the Y axis. Keep them selected.

  5. Position the camera to see the bottom of the square. Rotate them 45 degrees on the X axis. Keep them selected.
  6. Position the camera to see the bottom of the square. Rotate them 45 degrees on the X axis. Keep them selected.
  7. Scale the base of the box away from the pyramid so that it is about 3 to 4 times longer than the pyramid.
  8. Change the color to a dark green.
  9. Another type of leaf will be made with two pyramids. Place a pyramid on the workplane. Create a duplicate and move it 2mm on both the X and Y axis.
  10. Change the inner pyramid to a hole object.
  11. Select both pyramids and group them together.
  12. Scale the height up to 40mm. Change the color to the same dark green as the other leaf.

Step 2: Position the Leaves

The following information is a single lesson in a larger Tinkercad project. Check out this and more projects on Tinkercad.

  1. Make a copy of the first leaf. Rotate it 90 degrees on the Y axis so it points up.
  2. Move or align the leaf to the center of the pineapple body. The leaf should be off center about 4mm.
  3. Make a duplicate and move it to the opposite side of the pineapple body. Rotate both leaves about 10 degrees so they point away from each other.
  4. With both of the leaves selected, Hold ALT to make a copy and rotate it about 90 degrees. Select the four leaves. Hold ALT and make another copy and rotate it another 90 degrees. They should look like the image when finished.

  5. Make a copy of the second leaf type. Move and rotate it so it fits over the leaves from step 4.
  6. Position the camera to see the opposite side of the second leaf.
  7. Create a duplicate of the second leaf. Use the Mirror tool to reflect the duplicate to the other side. Move it so it fits over the leaves on the opposite side.
  8. Select the two duplicates of the second leaf type. Holding ALT to create a copy, rotate them until their edges touch. Keep making copies until you have a complete circle(Red). Then select all of the leaves in the circle and duplicate it. Move the duplicate circle(Blue) down and rotate it so the pointed tips line up with the the spaces of the first ring. The image shows the finale result.
  9. Continue to the next step.
  10. You have completed making a pineapple.

Step 3: Congratulations
