Introduction: How to Cut a Cake With Floss

About: I'm a creative content creator here at instructables, which means that I have the most awesome job making just about anything and everything! My passions are interior decor, fun and innovative children's play …

If you're reading this you've probably, at some point in your life, been to a child's birthday party. So you know the mass hysteria that commences once the birthday candles have been blown out, and all those little hands and mouths frantically await for their slices of cake, slowing encroaching closer around the adult who is unfortunate enough to be standing nearest the cake. With a sharp knife and oh so many tiny hands...the pressure mounts.

Have you ever been that person? Have you ever wished there were a magic way to cut even slices in seconds without using a dangerously sharp metal object?

There is! In this instructable, I'll show you how!

Let's get cutting!

Step 1: Materials

For this project you'll need:

Cake (any shape or size)

Dental Floss (yup! Durable and capable of cutting a fine line)

Step 2: Get Flossing

Cut a piece of floss plenty longer than your cake's width. Wrap the two ends around each of your forefingers a few times.

Step 3: Do It!

For the rectangular quarter sheet of cake, I cut the cake into near even squares. For the circular chocolate cake, I use traditional pie-cuts.

Step 4: Enjoy!

You're wonderfully even sliced piece of cake.

No knives = no hurt fingers during the picturing of this instructable.

This is great for cutting cakes in form for "fancy" birthday cakes pre-frosting.

    Nice!

Advanced technique to avoid crumbs on the top of your icing: after each cut, let go of one end of the floss and pull it through the bottom of the cut you just made. Wipe any chunks off by tugging floss gently through your fingers, re-wrap, and cut again.

It's like the way you floss a crown or braces!

Excellent! Simple but awesomely effective. And you get to use cake-flavored floss for days afterwards!

You could make a frame, and string several pieces across, then cut the whole cake in a single press.
