Hi I’m Victoria Coudron. Do you have naturally curly or wavy hair but always struggle to find a good and easy way to style it without heat damage or being very time consuming? Curly hair can be something that is difficult to style when you do not know how you want to approach doing it. Learning how to do it so that it is simple and is something that you will enjoy the result of makes a day more enjoyable. I am going to show you how to do a method called plopping that is both easy, and does not require much extra time, that gives you waves or curls that are both natural looking and will last you all day long. There are many different ways of plopping hair, but the simple ones do seem to work the best. Although just applying the curl products to your hair may seem the easiest, spending a few more minutes to let your hair dry while in plopping will help to make so that the curls will last longer and will have less frizz.

Supplies

In order to complete plopping hair, the supplies that you will want to have are going to be a shampoo and conditioner that will not be too heavy for your hair texture. You will also want to have an argon oil, curl crème, and hair gel to apply to the hair. The other supplies that will be helpful will be a hair pick to gently style the hair once it is dry, a large t-shirt, and a microfiber towel for gently drying thicker hair.

Step 1: Washing the Hair

Begin by washing the hair with shampoo and conditioner so that it is clean and moisturized, and ready for beginning getting ready to style. When shampooing, focus mostly on the scalp of the head and massage the follicles of the hair with fingertips. Make sure that the conditioner is evenly distributed to all parts of the hair and that it focused on the ends of the hair.

Step 2: Drying the Hair

When finished, wring out all water, do not dry with towel. In order to get the most moisture out of the hair, gently squeeze all of the hair beginning at the scalp and working down toward the ends of the hair. Do this until there is no more moisture that can be removed from the hair. If hair takes a long time to dry, do small amount of drying with a t-shirt or microfiber towel

Step 3: Apply Oil

Then apply an argon oil into the hair. This helps so that the hair will not look dry, and keeps moisture in it very well. This should be applied by putting the oil on the fingers and then running the hands through the hair, so that the product is evenly distributed.

Step 4: Applying the Curl Crème

Next take a small amount of hair gel along with a small amount of curl crème and mix them together to form a mixture to put into the hair. This will help to hold the curls in the morning. Take the mixture and apply it to the hair evenly by running your hair through hands so that it is being applied to both the top and bottom layer of hair

Step 5: Scrunching Hair

Once the product mixture has been applied to the hair, begin scrunching the hair. This is done by bringing the hair towards the scalp and gathering chunks of hair and letting them fall repeatedly. This is done to the entire head of the hair for a few minutes.

Step 6: Preparing the Shirt

After scrunching the hair, it is time to put it into a t-shirt to let it dry, a large or extra-large t-shirt should be used, as it will need to go around the head comfortably. The shirt should be lying flat on either the floor or bed so that shirt can be wrapped around the head. The bottom of the shirt should be closest to the body

Step 7: Tying the Shirt

Once the shirt is lying flat out, flip the hair so that it is in falling over the top of the head. The hair should be then placed on the bottom of the shirt. Once the hair is placed onto the shirt, wrap the two corners of the bottom of the shirt around the head tightly. Bring the neckline of the shirt down and tuck it under the corners of the shirt that were wrapped around the head. The sleeves of the shirt are now used in order to secure the shirt around the head. Bring them to the top of the head and tie a tight knot so that the shirt will not slip off the head.

Step 8: Finishing Plopping

Now that the shirt is secured onto the head, the hair needs to stay this until it is completely dry. This mostly is done overnight, so that it has plenty of time to dry. After the hair is dry, the shirt can be removed and let the hair go. The hair is then ready to be styled in any way that is preferred. A hairspray or dry shampoo can be used in order to achieve the desired look.
