Introduction: How to Make Ice Cream From Home

Hello, my name is Austin. I help people cure the midnight munchies from the safety and comfort of their homes. Today I’m going to give you the skills to make a tasty treat at home. I have four easy steps to make your own ice cream. Knowing how to make ice cream will save you time and the inconvenience of driving.

Supplies

  • One-quart resealable plastic bag
  • One-gallon resealable plastic bag
  • One cup of half-and-half
  • Two tablespoons of sugar
  • One-half teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • Three cups of ice
  • One-third cup of salt

Step 1: Making Your Mixture That Will Turn Into the Ice Cream

First, in a one-quart resealable plastic bag, combine one cup of half-and-half, two tablespoons of sugar, and half a teaspoon of vanilla. Push out all of the excess air by keeping the opening of the bag upright and squeezing the mixture from the bottom until the fluid is near the top. Once the excess air is removed, seal the bag. This mixture will soon become the ice cream.

Step 2: Getting Ready to Cool Your Ice Cream Mixture

Next, get the one-gallon resealable plastic bag and fill it with three cups of ice and one-third cup of salt. The ice and salt are going to mix and rapidly chill the mixture into the consistency of ice cream.

Step 3: Freezing Your Mixture Into Ice Cream

Then, place the one-quart plastic bag that is sealed with the liquid mixture inside of the one-gallon plastic bag that contains the ice and salt. Seal the large plastic bag with some extra air inside in order to allow the smaller plastic bag to bounce and move around the ice. Shake the large plastic bag vigorously for seven to ten minutes. Check the consistency of the ice cream mixture every few minutes by squeezing the small plastic bag. Once the ice cream is frozen and stiff when squeezed stop shaking the bag.

Step 4: Enjoying Ice Cream

Finally, remove the small bag from the large bag but do not open the smaller bag yet because it is now covered in salt. Quickly rinse the small plastic bag under cold water to remove any salt that is clinging to the bag. Open the small bag and enjoy the ice cream.
