Introduction: Ride on Tractor

About: on my instructubles ill be woodworking. and sometimes with my dad. and follow me on google plus

today ill be showing you how to make this '' Oliver Tractor '' so let's get into it:)

Step 1: The Parts

These are the parts you will need and can pick these up at any hardware store.

I got all my parts at our Harbor freight/ Home Depot.

You will need: a 4'' caster wheel, and 1. 5/8'' All Thread Bar, and 4. 5/8'' nuts, and 2. 5/8 washers, and finally 2. 2x10 that you will need to cut 2 feet. and 2x3 81/2 inch board. You will also need a jigsaw, a drill, spade bits,4inch long screws, 2inch screws,1/2 inch long screws.an angle grinder.

Step 2: Shapeing the Tractor

Ok, after you have gotten all your parts, lets head over to the saw. A Radial Arm Saw would be the best but, a jigsaw that would work just fine. Measure 4'' tall and 11'' wide do this to both pieces of board. Now after you have done, that cut out the places where you marked. Now after you have that cut line up both pieces of board and screw them together but, don't glue them just yet. Take the jigsaw and round the nose just as in the picture. This is just the green part of the body.

Step 3: Makeing the Fenders

Now we are going to be making the black fenders for the axle support. Now take your 2. 2x3's and cut them both 8 1/2 inches. then after you do that front if you have a belt sander that would work great to round all the edges.

Ok, attach the fender so they are flush with the bottom and also leave about 3 inches hanging off the back then, secure them with the 2inch screws but, do not glue them yet. Now find a spade bit that is a little but not much larger than the all threaded rod. ( If you use a 5/8 inch drill bit I think it will be to snug.)

Step 4: Making the Steering Wheel/seat

Ok now we have covered the body and the fenders but, what about the seat and steering wheel? Well, now we are going to make the steering wheel and the seat. Note: (The steering wheel does not actually work it is just for show.) Ok, now we are going to start with the seat. we are going to use 1/4 inch thick piece of plywood and have it be at least 8 inches wide and cut in 7 1/2 inches long. now this part is kind of up to you on how you want it to look but, if you want it to look like mine there is a picture up at the top of this step.

Now we are at the steering you are going to need a jigsaw or a band saw would work better. Now the steering wheel is totally up to you just because all it is is a circle. cut a trapezoid that is about 2 1/2 inches tall. Then I cut a circle about 7 1/2 inches in diameter. Then I screwed it to the trapizoid now you have your steering column.

Note: ( the seat is so low because the toddler I made it for was not tall enough, so if the seat needs height just take a scrap 2/3 and screw it to the bottom of the seat.)

Step 5: Putting the Stock Wheel on

On the bottom nose, you are going to cut with your jigsaw 1 1/2 inches in and 4 inches in length. As shown up at the picture.

Step 6: Painting It

Now all the colors you choose are totally up to you but I painted mine green and black. Another good combination you might consider is red and white but, that's just me. unscrew your fenders and the steering column and seat. You are going to get ready to paint. Note:( when you paint don't use spray paint on the body I learned that the hard way but, you can use spray paint on the accessories.)

So that's about it for the painting. I would let it set or a couple extra hour than what the can says just to be safe.

Step 7: The Finish Product.

Ok, this is the final step, take your angle grinder and cut you all thread bar 14 inches. Once you have done that take your tires, stock wheel, nuts, and washers and put it together. put your stock wheel in your groove up at the front use those 1/2 inch screws to screw it down. Now just follow the pictures and you'll be ok.
