Introduction: IPhone 5s Laser Cut and 3D Printed Case

Equipment needed:

  • Perspex
  • Computer - Adobe illustrator & Adobe fusion 360 Apps.
  • Laser cutter
  • 3D printer
  • PLA plastic

Step 1: Step 3: Case Outskirts

First, to make the cases outskirts we will be using the 3D printer.

You need to download The iPhone 5s case from fusion 360 created by Josh Scheringer.

Once this has been downloaded, you have to delete the back of the case.

Once deleted, you are ready to print using the 3D printer. Load in your desired colour to your 3D printer, and download the project onto your printers SD card. Insert to your printer and press go.

Step 2: Step 2: Making the Perspex Back

Now you are ready for the second step, making the back:

Enter measurements of 126mm x 61mm into adobe illustrator to make a vector rectangle with curved edge.

Now add an extra cut of another vector rectangle with curved edges for the camera hole. The rectangle should be 4mm down and 4mm across. The rectangles measurements should be 6mm down by 4mm across, from the upper left side corner.

Add a raster image of your choice that fits the rectangle correctly. Place this on top of the rectangle in a separate layer.

Now print this using the laser cutter on perspex material.

Step 3: Step 3: Glue the Two Pieces Together

Now you are ready for the last step:

To glue the two pieces of the phone case together, place a strip of glue on the back of the 3D printed piece (on the inside) and press the back of the perspex piece on top. Wait to dry.

Your finished product should look like this...
