Introduction: Ikea Hack: Upgrade Napkin Holder
I like the look of the Ikea napkin holder, but the plastic base didn't match our decor well. I upgraded it using a wood plate instead of the plastic base it came with.
Step 1: Materials
One Ikea napkin holder. $5
One wood plate. I bought mine while on vacation in Hawaii. It's made of acacia and cost about $10.
A small drill bit
Hot glue gun
Step 2: Drill and Glue
Take the weight out from the napkin holder and cut the wire close to the plastic tip.
Find a drill bit that it just about the same size as the wire and dull a hole into a corner of the wooden plate. Be sure top not drill through the plate completely. I drilled about 1/4 inch. You can mark your dull with a piece of tape of you like to know when to stop.
Put a small amount of hot glue on the top of the wire and insert into the hole in the plate quickly. Hot glue dries quickly, but don't worry, I failed once and all needed to do was take the glue pod the tip of the wire one it cooled and I got it right the second time.
Let cool a few minutes, put on your table with napkins, enjoy.
Let me know of you have any questions.
