Impossible Puzzle

I made this for my dad's twenty-second wedding anniversary, he likes puzzles and was quite happy with it. It's not hard to solve, the reason it is impossible is that there is two ways to solve it. One of the solutions leaving a mysterious hole.

I have a slightly different "impossible puzzle"
It has a picture on it, and when you arrange it one way there are 10 people, and then you arrange it another way there are 11. I have yet to figure out where the person goes....

I think I shall make one of these sometime.

Hi, i love this puzzle, Ive been looking at it for a while now, and trying to do a bit of maths to figure out the ideal ratios of the lengths - but cant get it to work. All I can guess is that the way that the puzzle works is that theres quite a lot of gaps between the pieces in one orientation, and its quite snug in the other?

There are gaps before and after. They are more from my lack of skill during cutting and there isn't much difference in gap space.

You're welcome! It's a very neat illusion, and if you do the cuts carefully, almost impossible for a casual user to figure out.
