Introduction: Inexpensive Cup Holder/Extender for Car

About: 5ft 9. Recently unemployed. Looking for a new hobby

For a while now, I have been plagued with an in-car cup holder that is far too short. Sharp turns quickly result in bottles ending up under my feet and, as you can tell, this is very dangerous. A quick internet search revealed that there isn't much in the way of a purchasable remedy, I don't own a 3D printer, and I'm not the greatest at carpentry, moulding etc., so these options were unavailable also.

The other day, after purchasing a 'Meal deal' from a Local Supermarket, I discovered that my snack tub was slightly larger than the gap for my drinks holder. My wife had a similar tub with her meal and i requested that once she had finished, could I have it. The cogs in my head had started to turn.

Step 1: Purchase 2x Snack Sized “POPular Crisp” Tubs and Remove the Lid, Foil, and Crisps (YUM)

Step 2: Take a Craft Knife and Carefully Remove the Bottom of the Tub.

Step 3: Cut 4 Small Triangular Notches at the Base of the Tub (12 O'clock, 3, 6, and 9) Check (note Before Doing This

*note: if your drinks holder is larger than the tub, you can skip this step.

Step 4: Pinch the Edges of a Notch Together and Use Masking Tape to Secure Them in Place (repeat for All)

Step 5: Masking the Outside

Step 5.

(steps 5 and 6 can be reversed for cleaner edges)

Place a strip of masking tape from top to bottom, leaving a length at each end to fold over for strength. Place another piece of masking tape, left of, and halfway over the first. Do this all the way round until you have completely covered the tub

Step 6: Cover the Inside of the Tub With Masking Tape. Trim Any Excess.

Step 7: Carefully Press the Bottom of the Tub Into the Top of the Second Tub. It Should Push in at Least a Centimetre or Almost an Inch (you Should Also Check If It Fits Into Your Car's Drinks Holder).

Step 8: Check If Your Drinks Fit and Don't Fall Out the Bottom.

Step 9: Check Again If It Fits Snug in Your Holder (adjust If Needed)

Pad-out or make narrower to fit snuggly

Step 10: Paint Both Inside and Out With Paint That Matches Your Interior, or Be Creative

THIS I NOT THE FINAL PRODUCT BUT I HAVE NO MORE PICTURES

Step 11: Coat in PVA Glue (or Modge-podge) for a Shiny Finish

Step 12: Repeat Process for 2nd Tub

Step 13: Put It in Your Car and Feel Safe in the Knowledge That You Are Awesome (no Matter What Your Therapist Says)
