My brother died 2 years ago and I bought his truck from the estate. It’s a northern truck 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd z71 but has rust underneath and on bottom of doors. I’m concerned about this continuing and would like to stop it, however I’m afraid to do as stated as it will most likely flake off completely through. If this happens then what do I do? The truck otherwise is in amazing shape. I currently am in Florida so it will not be an issue rusting now. Please help cause people here only tell me I need to replace the entire thing!!!
Thanks!

I use to work in hot rod shop making stainless steel gas tanks. We would clean the welds with full strength vinegar and common scratcher pads for dishes to get rid of the blue weld marks from tig welding. My boss used to say that this was the best because the alternative was a smelly acidic stuff that was very expensive and hazardous. So I can see this working as well.

Any 'quick cure' for Rust Cancer? Besides Bondo?

Vinegar is already pretty dilute so when I clean rust with vinegar I use it full strength. Vinegar is also pretty cheap by the gallon bottle too so I'm not very concerned about stretching it out. I never tried spraying vinegar though, I dip rusty metal in vinegar.
