Introduction: Interactive Story Card

Do you want to make a storytelling card that interacts with a computer screen?

Note that Step 2 and Step 3 are done together. When I brought in the "Play sound" command, I recorded new sound, one command at a time.

Supplies

  • cardstock
  • markers
  • metal fasteners
  • metal paper clips
  • copper tape
  • Makey Makey
  • Scratch account
  • Metal bracelet (Use a slap bracelet that is used as a party favor. Wrap it with aluminum foil)

Step 1: Story Writing

First, write your script. You will need the script when you record your story.

Step 2: Record Your Story

Record your story, one scene at a time. Name them recording 1, recording 2, in chronological order.

Step 3: Coding With Scratch

Code your story using scratch. If you would like to see the code for this story, go to https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/352028530.

Step 4: Marking the Key Stroke

Mark which scene corresponds to which keystroke. This is useful when you connect your story card to Makey Makey.

Step 5: Add Interactive Buttons

Insert a metal fastener from the front. Secure a metal paper clip with the fastener at the back, and then tape them over with copper tape.

Assembly

1. Insert Makey Makey in the USB port.

2. Connect the metal bracelet to the earth.

3. Connect the metal clips of your story card to Makey Makey.

Test

1. Wear the metal bracelet.

2. Touch each metal fastener button.
