Introduction: Jar Lantern Out of Trash

About: I am an Industrial Designer, who obviously loves to create. Now that I am a mom, most of my creations are inspired by my daughers. I believe that if more parents were making stuff with their kids, the world wo…

In this instructable I'll show you that you don't need a big budget to make your house look nice.
Actually, we'll be using stuff that you'll normally throw to the garbage, and tools that you already have, so this is the prefect project for someone with no budget at all.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

A big jar. Mine had olives.

A can of soda

Scissors

A thick and a thin rope

A screw

A glue gun

Step 2: Cut

Carefully cut the can as shown in the picture.

I was surprised that the regular scissors cut so easily the can, it was easier than cutting cardstock.

Step 3: Measure and Cut

Depending on the shape of your jar, decide how thick you want the metallic part. Cut four rings with that width (mine was 1 cm). Make a cut so you can flat them and now you'll have four rectangles.

Step 4: Fold and Glue

Fold two in half and with the hot glue stick the two printed parts together, so that only the metallic part is visible.

Step 5: Pierce

With your nail or other pointy object make a hole in each side of the metallic rectangle.
Fold at half and glue the other two rectangles. Measure the circumference of the jar where the metallic part will be, and cut these two pieces the right size. Punch holes in these parts too.

Step 6: Glue Them to the Jar

Clean and remove the labels from the jar. I used vinegar to remove them and it was really easy.

Glue the four metallic parts to the top of the jar. String a thin piece of rope though the holes.

Step 7: Add the Rope

Cut four small pieces of soda can about 3 x 1 cm each. These will be a small detail for the rope, and will help us glue the thick rope to the thin one.

Step 8: Enjoy!
