How To Download, Unzip, Burn, and Live Install the new Kali Linux 2.0.1 on the Raspberry Pi B !

Step 1: Get Ready!

You will need:

Raspberry Pi model B or better

Formatted SD Card. Recommend Class10 at least 8GB

Kali Linux Image from KaliLinux.org. Make sure you Verify your downloaded Image file.

Win32 Disk Imager

Windows desktop, laptop, or virtual box to run Win32 Disk Imager

Network Ethernet cable

Keyboard & Mouse

Monitor. I used an old Dell monitor that had VGA and DVI inputs. I used an HDMI to DVI convertor cable to connect to the Raspberry Pi. Works Great.

Step 2: Download Download

Step 4: Unpack and Burn

I used 7zip to open the .tar file in windows. ( http://www.7-zip.org ) I extracted the Image into a directory. I opened Win32 Disk Imager, browsed for the correct Image. Selected the correct disk to write to: USB Multi Card Reader E:

Click write.

Once the write is complete, Safely eject the SD card from the windows machine and plug it into your Raspberry Pi.

Step 5: Boot the Pi

Boot up your new Kali Linux machine. This will launch a boot loader with several options. Live CD, Graphical Install, Debug, etc. I chose Graphical. The installation is pretty straight forward.

Step 6: After Installation

After installation.

1. Change your root password!

2. Generate a new RSA key for SSH, etc.

3. Add a new user. Then add the user to the sudoers list for sudo power.

4. Log out of root!

The installation went ok. I think the 2.0.1 version is a Soft Float... However after running the Raspberry Pi Kali linux machine I started getting errors. Particularly USB Wireless Keyboard conflicts. Several things run on the USB infrastructure. There is apparently some kind of collision going "sometimes" on when i use the Logitech K400r USB blue tooth keyboard. This started happening after I ran:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

-

It took a LONG time to update and upgrade, only to FAIL :(

If you dont have this problem, good for you. I will be trying to install the kali-linux-2016.1-armhf.img.
