Introduction: Kwall-e

The robot is a psychological help. The patient takes the robot home and it serves like a diary. By talking to the robot about his day, the patient can talk about his problems and the robot reacts to the patients emotions by moving his tentacles and opening and closing his eyes. The patient can make the robot by itself or with the help of the psychologist.

Step 1: Components

The different components of the Kwall-e are:

- 10 luminous tentacles

- 2 LED matrices

- 2 LED matrices holders

- 1 grid:

- 2 loose circles

- 2 already attached circles

- 10 short rods

- 10 long rods

- 5 M3x16 hexagon screws

- 5 M3 hexagon nuts

- 5 M4x16 hexagon screws

- 1 servo

- 1 cover

- 2 M3x14 screws

- 1 pillar

Step 2: Assemble the 2 Loose Circles

The components used for this step are:

- 2 loose circles

- 5 M3x16 hexagon screws

- 5 M3 hexagon nuts

It is important to notice that the circles have one mat side and one smooth side. Put the 2 smooth sides against each other. The circle with the smallest hole is the upper one.

Make sure the white stripes at the sides of the circles align (see picture).

Connect the two circles with the screws and the nuts.

Make sure the nut is on the upper side of the circles.

Place the circles on the pillar.

Step 3: Adding the Tentecles

The components used for this step are:

- 10 luminous tentacles

- 10 short rods

Slide the black part of the tentacles in the cut out rectangles.

Place a rod in the provided hole and rectangle (see picture) to make sure that the tentacle isn't able to fall down any more.

Repeat this step 10 times.

Step 4: Adding the Servo

The components used for this step are:

- 1 servo

- 2 M3x14 screws

Place the servo in de provided hole in de upper circle (see picture).

Connect the servo to the circle with the two screws.

Pull the wires of the servo upwards through the biggest hole of the three (see pictures).

Step 5: Adding the Next Circles

The components used for this step are:

- 2 already attached circles

Slide the circles over the tentacles through cut out rectangles.

Remove one by one the screws from step 2 and replace them so that the three circles are connected by the screws and the nuts. Look at the pictures to see the before and after.

Again here make sure that the white stripes are aligned.

Step 6: Making the Tantacles Able to Move

The components used for this step are:

- 10 long rods

Hitch one side of the rods into the upper small circle of the tentacles and the other side into a hole of the disk on the servo.

Repeat this 10 times so that all the tentacles are connected to the disk and are able to move.

When the servo turns the tentacles will move.

Step 7: Placing the Eyes

The components used for this step are:

- 2 LED matrices

- 2 LED matrices holders

Attach the LED matrices to the holders. The LED matrices will be the eyes of the robot.

When de matrices are attached to the holders, the holders can click on the upper circle as seen in the picture.

The holders can click on 5 different places on the circle the user chooses on witch places he wants to click the holders.

Step 8: Add the Cover

The components used for this step are:

- 5 M4x16 hexagon screws

- 1 cover

Place the cover on top of grids and tentacles.

In de cover and the grid there are 5 holes. Connect the cover to the grids using the screws.

The robot is finished.
