Introduction: Laser Cut Summer Felt Table Decorations

About: Hi. My name is Adelle and I work for Trotec Laser, Inc. In my spare time I enjoy sharing projects for people to use on their lasers.

It's Summer Time... Which means having friends and family over for a barbecue.

Impress your guests with these fun and easy to make felt table top decorations!

We used green and yellow... But let your creativity take flight with your favorite color combinations!

We're using a laser cutting system to cut our files.

If you're awesome with the blade you could always do your cutting with an X-ACTO knife... But with a laser cutting engraver you're going to get awesome clean and sealed edges. If you don't own a laser give a local maker space a visit... It's safe to bet they do!

Step 1: Download File

The first step is easy because we've done all the hard work for you!

Download the Summer Felt Table Decorations file and open it in your favorite graphics program. We used CorelDraw.

Now you're ready to CUT the file... Yup THAT EASY!

Step 2: Cut Your Felt

Once you've sent the file to the laser it's time to enter in the laser parameters. Depending on the machine you're using (and how powerful it's laser tube is) the settings may be a little different. Below are the settings if you're also using a Trotec Speedy 400 40W laser... I think it's one of the best laser cutting machine. If you're using a different system it's best to do some material testing to prevent too much waste

These are the settings I used:

Black Lines (engraving)
Power: 60 %
Speed: 50 %
Resolution: 500 dpi
Air Assist: On

Red Lines (cutting)
Power: 60 %
Speed 1.1 %
Frequency 1000 Hz
Air Assist: On
Correction 20

Tips:

  • Use a 1.5 inch lens
  • Using a honeycomb table prevents the felt rub off on the processing table
  • We suggest to use polyester felt for clean cutting edges and great engraving results

Step 3: Assemble the Parts

Now that everything is cut, it's time to put it all together. The table decoration is designed to fit perfectly without adhesive (AKA easy mess free assembly)!

Step 4: Wow Your Guests

Decorate your table with these awesome napkin holders, silverware holders, and place mats and step back to admire a job well done. We know your guests will be delighted with this fun and unique pop of color. If you want them to double as a "take-home" gift try engraving their names on it!
