Heel wat mensen kunnen omwille van een beperking slechts één van beide handen gebruiken bij het lezen van een boek. Dit is geen evidentie. Heeft u dit zelf al eens uitgeprobeerd, met één hand?

De Leeshulp of ReadingAid kan hierbij een oplossing bieden. Het hulpmiddel is gemaakt in samenwerking met een oudere, die omwille van een cerebro-vasculair accident of CVA, in de volksmond 'beroerte' of 'hersenbloeding' genoemd, halfzijdig verlamd is aan de rechterzijde. Vele ideeën werden uitgedacht en prototypes werden onderworpen aan verschillende tests door de oudere zelf.

The 'Leeshulp' or ReadingAid can offer a solution. The aid was made in collaboration with an elderly person who, due to a cerebro-vascular accident or CVA, popularly called 'stroke' or 'cerebral haemorrhage', is paralyzed on the right side. Many ideas were conceived and prototypes were subjected to various tests by the older ones themselves.

Step 1: Lasersnijden

A/ Aankoop plexiglas/PMMA

Grootte van het te snijden hulpmiddel: 750mm x 250mm
Koop een PMMA-plaat die iets groter is: indien gewenst kan je twee hulpmiddelen snijden uit één plaat.
Op die manier heb je 2 hulpmiddelen voor (bijna) dezelfde prijs.

B/ Lasersnijden

Bevraag vooraf of jouw aangekochte PMMA-plaat past in de lasersnijder: standaard lasersnijders zijn te klein voor deze plaat.
Zet de bijgevoegde bestanden op een usb-stick.
Duur lasersnijden: enkele minuten (afhankelijk of je voor één of twee hulpmiddelen koos)

A / Purchase plexiglass / PMMA

Size of tool to be cut: 750mm x 250mm
Buy a PMMA sheet that is slightly larger: you can cut two tools from one sheet if desired. That way you have 2 aids for (almost) the same price.

B / Laser cutting

Ask in advance whether your purchased PMMA sheet fits in the laser cutter: standard laser cutters are too small for this sheet.
Put the attached files on a USB stick.
Laser cutting time: a few minutes (depending on whether you opted for one or two tools)

Step 2: Plexiglas Buigen

A/ Lijnen aftekenen

Teken de 4 'buiglijnen' af op het plastic dat het plexiglas beschermt.

B/ Buiglijnen verwarmen en plooien

Stel het plooiapparaat vooraf in op 90 graden.
Schakel het buigapparaat in en laat het voldoende opwarmen.
Let op! Plooi het plexiglas langs de juiste kant, m.a.w. het beschermend plastic aan de buitenkant

Verwijder nu de plastic beschermfolie.

A / Mark lines

Draw the 4 'bending lines' on the plastic that protects the plexiglass.

B / Heat bend lines and fold

Pre-set the pleating device to 90 degrees.
Switch on the bender and allow it to heat up sufficiently.
Pay attention! Fold the plexiglass on the right side, i.e. the protective plastic on the outside

Step 3: Bescherming Leeshulp/ReadingAid

Aangezien het plexiglas (PMMA) krasgevoelig is, is het aan te raden om deze voldoende te beschermen.
Meer beschadiging resulteert in beperkte doorzichtbaarheid, in het bijzonder aan het bovenvlak, waar de gebruiker doorheen kijkt. Om het éénhandig gebruik te behouden, werd er een vilten 'flap' geadviseerd die magnetisch sluit aan de zijkant van het hulpmiddel

Bescherming maken

Benodigdheden:

Vilt
Garen
Siliconen druppels / stootdoppen
Magneetstrip (klevend)
Naaimachine
Schaar
Bouten en moeren

Stap 1
Plaats op de onderzijde van de Leeshulp/ReadingAid in elke hoek 1 silicone druppel.
Het is noodzakelijk om dit eerst te doen zodat je tijdens de afwerking het hulpmiddel niet beschadigt

Stap 2
Neem de vilten stof en snij een rechthoek uit met volgende afmetingen: 94cm x 50cm

Stap 3
Knip twee stroken van de flexibele magneetstrip (2 x 24cm)

Stap 4
Plooi de vilten stof in twee zodat de stof 47cm x 25cm is.
Kleef aan één zijde één flexibele magneetstrip.

Stap 5
Werk de rand van de vilten stof af met de naaimachine en stik een extra lijn naast de magneetstrip.

Stap 6
Prik de boutjes doorheen de vilten stof en bevestig ze aan de leeshulp (zie gaatjes, zijkant)

Stap 7
Bevestig de flexibele magneetstrip op de leeshulp.

More damage results in limited transparency, especially at the top surface, through which the user is looking. To maintain one-handed use, a felt 'flap' that closes magnetically to the side of the device was recommended

Create protection

Necessities:

Felt
Yarn
Silicone drops / bumpers
Magnetic strip (adhesive)
Sewing machine
Scissors
Bolts and nuts

Step 1
Place 1 silicone drop in each corner on the underside of the Reading Aid / ReadingAid. It is necessary to do this first so that you do not damage the tool during finishing

Step 2
Take the felt fabric and cut out a rectangle with the following dimensions: 94cm x 50cm

Step 3
Cut two strips of the flexible magnetic strip (2 x 24cm)

Step 4
Fold the felt fabric in half so that the fabric measures 47cm x 25cm. Stick one flexible magnetic strip on one side.

Step 5
Finish the edge of the felt fabric with the sewing machine and stitch an extra line next to the magnetic strip.

Step 6
Pierce the bolts through the felt fabric and attach them to the reading aid (see holes, side)

Step 7
Attach the flexible magnetic strip to the reading aid.
