Introduction: Limited Edition "Golden" Thomas and Display Case

Learn how to make a limited edition "Golden Thomas" and cardboard Display Case

Your little kids will love the Golden Thomas.. It's easy what you need to do for this project and your kids won’t know the difference between this Golden Thomas and the real one! Well, maybe but just tell them it's a limited edition Thomas, because this project is GOLD! It’s also something you can make for fun.

This Instructable is just one of hopefully many to come from Dover Intermediate School in Westlake, Ohio. In Technology Literacy class students explore many components of technology. Instructables.com will help students share their work and experience in dreaming, planning, designing, making and documenting. We hope this to be just a start of some great ideas and creations. Step 1: Supplies

Supplies you need for this project.

  • Thomas Train
  • Gold Duct Tape (Optional)
  • Cardboard Box
  • Paper
  • Markers
  • Craft Paint
    • Yellow
    • Orange
    • White
    • Brown

Please pay no attention to my toes. Toes are not a supply need for this project.

Step 2: Tools

Tools for the job.

  • Scissors
  • Paint Brush
  • Hammer. Well, you don't really need a hammer, but it is always cool to have a hammer ready just in case.

Step 3: Get a Thomas Train

Go to local toy store and get a Thomas Train or one that looks similar.

Step 4: Cut Cardboard Box

Take out or find a small cardboard box and cut a square hole in the middle of the box.

Step 5: Cover the Cardboard Box

Use glue or tape to stick 6-7 pieces of paper around the box. Or however much us needed. I guess this depends on the size of your box.

Step 6: Decorate the Cardboard Box

Use the markers and design the outside of the box. Put “GOLDEN THOMAS” at the top as the title.

Step 7: Paint Thomas

Use a small paintbrush to mix yellow, orange, white, and brown paint to make gold.

After you have a nice shade of gold that you like, paint Thomas.

Step 8: Display Thomas

When the painted Thomas has dried, grab about 15 pieces of regular tape and put the Thomas through the square hole and tape it in their. AND NOW YOU HAVE YOUR GOLDEN THOMAS.

There is one thing I learned from doing this project. Yes I know, it was a stupid project, but I noticed that the paint can get really messy and could take over 10 hours to completely dry. It can get stuck to your hands. Just cover a table with a towel and paint. I recommend not painting the wheels because when the paint drys, the wheels won't work! This project was interesting to make and kind of funny. I just wanted to make a project that makes no sense because I am that kind of guy. Enjoy making this project.
