Introduction: LuminaLee Bio Desk Luminaire
Introducing a new era of lighting: under the radiance of bio-material desk lamp, sustainability and innovation collide. I have responded to the need for environmentally friendly solutions in the world by providing a workspace light that not only illuminates your desk but also illuminates the path to a more environmentally friendly future.
Supplies
Materials:
- 2 cups of flour
- 3 cups of sawdust
- 1 glass of water
- Sandpaper
- Felt
Implements:
- Bowl
- Spoon
Step 1: Prepare the Mould
Use a box of a suitable size and shape. Ensure the box is clean and dry before use.
Step 2: Prepare the Bio-Degradable Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of sawdust with 2 cups of flour.
- Stirring constantly, gradually add water until the mixture takes on the consistency of a thick paste. Make sure the mixture is lump-free.
Step 3: Attach Mixture to the Mould
- Attach the mixture made to the mold, while ensuring smoothness throughout.
- The box on its own is not strong enough to hold the material. I took a blue glass to give it more strength and placed it on the inside of the mold box.

Step 4: Allow to Dry & Remove the Mold
- After finishing adhering the mixture, give the structure time to completely dry. Depending on the environmental factors and the thickness of the layers, this could take a few hours or even overnight.
- Once the material is dry, remove the box mold.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
- The light was strong enough after 4-5 days, so I drilled holes over and created designs on the sides.
- Sand any uneven edges using sandpaper.
- Attached felt material for the aesthetics of the luminaire.
