Introduction: Make a Curious George Cake
Hello! In this instructable, we will be making a Curious George Cake. After seeing my Lego Man cake, my friend asked me if I could make a Curious George cake for her son that was turning 2 years old in a few days. I thought sure why not, it would be fun to make a Curious George Cake. So that is what we will be doing, let's get baking!

Step 1: Ingredients/Tools
You may print the recipe here if you want.
- Cake mix or homemade cake (plus the extra ingredients)
- Frosting (I used chocolate buttercream)
- White Fondant
- Black Fondant
- Brown Icing Color
- Curious George Face (from internet)
- 10inch cake pan (could use a smaller or larger one)
- Cake Board (I covered my with foil)
- Pizza roller
- Cake Knife
- Cake spatula
- Fondant Smoother
- Small round cookie cutter, or Tablespoon/Teaspoon
- Rolling pin or Fondant Rolling Pin

Step 2: Stencil
You need to go online and find a Curious George face that you like, then take the image and scale it up to fit a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Then print it out.
Step 3: The Cake
Bake the cake. I used an ordinary chocolate cake mix, you can use whatever cake that you like. Next let the cake cool completely, then remove it from it's pan and place on your cake board.
Step 4: Level Off the Cake
Now using a cake knife, or bread knife, cut the top mounded part of the cake off, leveling it out.
Step 5: Trim Around the Stencil
Now, place the Curious George stencil on top of the cake, and cut around the stencil, making a rough shape. Make sure to save the trimmings!
Step 6: Create Ear
Now cut a piece from the trimmings and using frosting, stick it to the cake, creating his second ear.
Step 7: Cover Cake With Frosting
Now frost the whole cake with your frosting, just use a nice light coat.
Step 8: Prep Fondant
Now we take our white fondant and knead it. Then separate two pieces from the main part. We will use that for the eyes and the face. Now take the big chunk of fondant and add some brown icing color, I just use a toothpick to add it. Then knead the color in, after kneading a bunch the color will be all nice an incorporated, keep adding color until you get your desired color of brown.
Step 9: Add Fondant to Cake
Now roll out the fondant, you will want it to be a few inches in diameter bigger then your cake. So in this cake, about 12 inches in diameter. Then roll it up on your rolling pin, and then unroll it while covering the cake.
Step 10: Smooth and Trim
Next use your fondant smoother and smooth out the fondant. You could use your palm, or another flat surface to do this. Then using your fingers, form the fondant around the sides, and the ears, and tuck it in at the bottom. Then we trim off the excess with a pizza roller or knife.
Step 11: Prepare Face
Now we take our smaller chunk of white fondant, add a little coloring, and knead it to create a tan color fondant. Now roll that part out. Then we cut our the face from the stencil, and place on top of our fondant. Then trim it away with the pizza roller or a knife. Next place that on top of the cake where you want it.
Step 12: Cut Ears
Next cut away the ears from the stencil, roll out some fondant, and trim around the ears. Then place those on the cake.
Step 13: Place Eyes
Next roll out some white fondant, then cut out the eyes from the stencil. You can cut around it, or use a Tablespoon, small lid, or small round cookie cutter to cut out the eyes. Then place those on the cake.
Step 14: Create Pupils
Now cut out some small round black pupils for the eyes, from the black fondant.
Step 15: Finish Off the Details
Next, using black fondant, roll out small thin long pieces, to use for all the outlines. If you need to, use a little bit of frosting as glue to hold the strips in place, especially around the chin area. Now you are done! It is a bit tedious, but definitely worth the time!
