Introduction: Makey Makey Piano Project

For this project, we used Makey Makey to create a simple piano that can play a song! Watch the video at the end for the results!

Supplies

  • Card Board Box
  • Foil
  • Masking Tape
  • Makey Makey
  • Electrical Wire
  • Scissors

Step 1: Making the Piano

Tape one side of the box closed and cut the flaps off the other side in order for the box to stay stable.

Step 2: Making the Piano 2

Using the tin fold, make rectangles that are about half the length of the box. Create the white piano keys by lining up the foil rectangles along one half of the box. For the black keys, decide how you want the piano to look and pair up three rectangles and two rectangles. The black keys will be centered in the space of two of the white keys. The group of three keys and two keys should be one full white key apart.

Once all the keys are in place, use tape to secure the tin foil

If needed: Use an image of a keyboard for reference.

Step 3: Connection

Using Makey Makey, decide which "keys" on the piano will play a note or a chord

Recommend: As shown in the video attached, assign each button color to it's respective wire used to connect the "keys" in order to keep track of the hardware

Step 4: Perform!
