PROJECT GOAL The aim of the project is to help autistic children to request answers to primary needs. We would like this project to be improved, checked and maybe continued by professional educators.

HOW DOES IT WORK Autistic children often have great difficulties in expressing themselves, this difficulty often generates frustration, particularly when they do not feel included in the primary requests. Some families and educators use a portfolio, the images express the needs, the child indicates the image or nods when the educator indicates the image that represents his need. Our project continues this idea, with the difference that introduces, through the mediation of the instrument, a chance for the child to say the words in full. Each command corresponds to both the pronunciation of a sentence and the representation of an image. We thought for this project only a few basic commands that we believe to be the first needs of a child.

DESTINATARI DEL PROGETTO Destinatari di questo progetto sono anzitutto educatori, insegnanti e stakeholders che a vario titolo affiancano bambini e preadolescenti con disturbi d’autismo.

OBIETTIVO DEL PROGETTO Obiettivo del progetto è favorire l’autonomia nella comunicazione di richieste primarie, fornendo l’embrione di uno strumento che possa essere sviluppato a partire da quello in oggetto, valutando la possibilità che questo possa rientrare nell’armamentario del bambino o del ragazzino. DESCRIZIONE E FUNZIONAMENTO Molto diffusa fra i bambini autistici a basso funzionamento è la difficoltà a comunicare, ciò genera sofferenza soprattutto nel caso in cui queste richieste riguardino la soddisfazione di bisogni primari. Alcune famiglie ed educatori dotano i bambini di una sorta di catalogo d’immagini che si possa sfogliare per presentare alcune di queste richieste. Il nostro progetto prosegue quest’idea, con la differenza che introduce, attraverso la mediazione dello strumento, la possibilità per il bambino di pronunciare le parole a tutti gli effetti. Ad ogni comando corrisponde sia il pronunciamento di una frase che la rappresentazione di un’immagine. Abbiamo pensato per questo progetto solo ad alcuni comandi di base che riteniamo essere le necessità prime di un bambino.
