Introduction: Making a Pound Cake

This instructable will teach you how to make a pound cake - and it is just in time for the holiday season.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

1/4 cup Butter

2 1/2 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

5 eggs

3 cups of flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 pinch of salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2: Mix the First 4 Ingredients and Blend Well

soften butter

sugar

vanilla

eggs (I like to add them 1 at a time and blend in between each add)

Step 3: Add the Next 4 Ingredients

Add 1/2 of the flour, baking soda and salt mixture.

Add 1/2 of the milk.

Repeat adding the flour mixture and the milk until fully used.

Step 4: Blend Well

Blend all ingredients until you have a creamy texture (about 8-10 minutes).

Step 5: Select Your Baking Dish

Select a pan for your cake (I like the bundt pan).

Poor the well blended mixture into the pan of your choice.

Step 6: Place Pan in Over

Place your cake pan and the batter into a pre-heated 350 degree oven.

Set your timer for 55-60 minutes (depending on your pan selection).

Step 7: Check the Cake

Never open your oven until the cake is finished. If you must check, use the light in the oven.

If you think your cake is done, you can check it by sticking a knife or toothpick in the center of the cake.

If the knife or toothpick comes out clean, then the cake is done.

If the knife or toothpick does not come out clean, leave your cake in the over for a little longer.

Note: Watch the cake closely as you do not want the cake to overcook (an overcooked cake may come out dry, hard and possibly burned).

Step 8: Allow the Cake to Cool

I usually leave the cake uncovered for about 45-1 hour to allow it to cool.

Once it is cool, I transfer the cake onto a cake dish.

Step 9: Enjoy

Now that your cake is cooled, the only thing left is to enjoy it! The cake can be frozen for up to two-weeks. If you decide to freeze a part of the cake, be sure to properly seal it.
