Introduction: Marble Cannon

1 3/4" PVC Pipe

1 5/8" Dowel Rod

2 5/8" Pipe Clamp

1 Hose Clamp

2 Springs

4 Screw Clamps

4 Rubber Bands

Loose Wood for Base

Step 1: Build the Base and Attach Clamps

Use three pieces of wood to create a stable surface for the cannon. Screw in pipe clamps to both ends of the base legs.

Step 2: Screw Hooks Into Dowel Rod and Attach Springs

Screw two of the screw hooks into either side of the end of the dowel rod. Attach springs to both hooks and add two more hooks to the other side of the springs.

Step 3: Insert Dowel Rod Into PVS Pipe and Attach Springs

Insert the dowel rod into the end of the PVC pipe. take hooks on the end of the springs and and insert them into the hose clamp. Tighten hose clamp, with both hooks inside, to PVC pipe about the length of the spring away from the base of the PVC pipe.

Step 4: Attach PVC Pipe to Base

Insert extra piece of dowel rod in-between pipe clamps. Put the PVC pipe onto dowel rod just in front of the hose clamps. Use two rubber bands on each dish of the base to attach the PVC pipe to the base.

Step 5: Trials

Use protecter to find 30 degrees above parallel to the ground. use a pen or marker to mark 30 degrees on the dowel rod. Make trials to find how far back you need to pull the dowel rod to reach each distance needed for the test. Use pen or marker to make marking on dowel rod to know where how far back to pull dowel rod on every .5m increments.

Step 6: Calculations

Calculate time with the time equation given to you for your best 3 trials. Use the time you just calculated and plug it into the 3rd kinematic equation for the initial velocity in the x and y direction for the 3 trials. Use Vectors and the pythagorean theory to figure out the initial velocity in the direction and angle of which the marble was shot.
