Introduction: Meatcubes: Square Meat Sensation

About: I'm a mechanical engineer in the Eindhoven region. In my spare time I like to make random stuff, both usefull and especially useless.

Why did someone ever think it would be easy to make a ball shaped piece of meat? That's what's has been in my mind for a long time. It rolls over when you're baking. It can't be baked on all sides because it has an infinite amount of sides. It just seems to be the wrong shape for a fantastic versatile piece of meat. It can taste perfect for everyone without being the same. It fits all the needs somebody can think of in a dish, from the simple fast food with fries to the fancy Christmas diner with venison steak at the base of the meatball.

I decided it was time to end this round ball shaped madness without destroying the versatility of this award winning peoples food. It's time to introduce you to the meatcube, a wonderfull piece of meat in the shape of a cube. Make them large for the big appetite, make a large batch of small meatcubes for a minecraft party, let your little one for once play with there food and make a meatblock tower.

Out with the old, in with the new, help the meatcube to become the new number one in the meatball madness.

Step 1: Ingredients

All ingredients you normally put in your meatballs can go here. I often use the following ingredients in various combinations. Ingredients used in this recepy are in italic.

  • ground beef
  • egg, Totally forgot it
  • unions
  • tomato, I used a can of sliced tomatoes
  • bread-crumbs
  • balsamic vinegar
  • soy sauce
  • ginger
  • hot sauce
  • bell pepper
  • sambal (badjak)
  • etc

Step 2: Unions and Tomatoes

When I started making meatcubes, I always found the unions to hard or raw. So that was why I started baking them before added them to the ground beef. This time I fried the unions and after a minute or two added the Balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, sirachi hot sauce and some other herbs. Let it boil for a while and then let it cool of a little bit.

Step 3: Mix All Ingredients

Put the meat in a bowl and add all ingredients except the bread crumbs and mix it all together. Then add the bread crumbs until the mixture is not too sticky anymore.

Step 4: Oven Bake the Meat

Put the meat mixture in an oven dish and bake it approximately 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 Celcius. When finished remove all the juices from meat, since less fat is less calories which means you can eat more meatcubes.

Step 5: Make the Meatcubes

Once the meat is cooled down a little, you can start cutting your meat into cubes. Just pick a size you like. Put a little butter or oil in a frying pan(less than I did in the pictures) and sear the meatcubes on all 6 sides until the cubes aren't raw anymore on the inside. Now your meatcubes are perfectly crunchy on the outside. Ready for the last step.
