Introduction: Michelada Recipe
The Michelada, a classic Mexican drink is the perfect cocktail for hot summer fun. And by hot, I mean spicy. This drink is an amazing combination of refreshing and a kick in the pants for your taste buds. Of course I'll show you how to adjust the heat to suit your comfort level, but it is meant to be a bit on the spicy side.
Let's head South of the border! (via your kitchen...)
Step 1: Recipe
2 Servings
1/4 cup fresh lime juice (approx. 2 limes)
(1x) 12oz Mexican beer (Tecate or Corona)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp tabasco sauce or another vinegar based hot sauce (add more to taste)
1/2 tsp soy sauce or maggi
ice
----------------------
1 tbsp honey
1/4 cup course or kosher salt
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (regular is ok too, but the smoked is EXTRA delicious)
lime slices
Tools
citrus juicer
measuring cups and spoons
2 small plates
2 serving glasses
mixing container (cocktail shaker works great)
long spoon
Step 2: Juice It!
Juice the 1/4 cup fresh lime and set aside.
Step 3: The Rim Mix
This glass rim mix is one of my favorite things about this recipe. I think the smoked paprika is such an amazing flavor.
Set out two small plates.
Mix 1/2 tsp of smoked paprika into the salt, either in the bowl or directly on the plate.
Spread the salt mix out evenly on the bottom of the plate.
Step 4: Oh Honey!
This is the tastiest way to stick salt to a glass rim that I've ever tried.
Spread the 1 tbsp of honey evenly over the bottom of the second plate.
Step 5: Prepping the Glasses
Dip each serving glass in the honey, and then in the salt/paprika mix.
Set aside.
Step 6: Mix It Up!
Add the lime juice, worcestershire sauce, tabasco, soy sauce, and beer to a handful of ice in a mixing container.
Use a long spoon to mix everything together well.
Step 7: Pour & Garnish
Pour the now mixed drink into the prepared glasses. Add a bit more ice if desired.
Add a light sprinkle of cracked pepper and smoked paprika onto the top of each drink.
Garnish each glass with a slice of lime.
Step 8: Your Vacation Is Ready!
Now take your drinks outside and pretend you're miles away on a beautiful Mexican beach...
