I've seen plenty of Instructables around involving making miniature bows out of office supplies, but I've looked and looked, but never saw anything that would be super springy like hair clips. I decided to change this.

Step 1: Materials

So you will need the following materials and tools:

Materials:

A set of hair clips

A Popsicle stick

String of broken Christmas lights

Tools:

Wire cutters

Sand paper

Hot glue gun

Awl

Step 2: Preparing the Hair Clips

To prepare the hair clips you need to take the middle prong and bend it as far back as you can. Once you've bent it back, you take the wire cutters and clip it off. Do this with both of them. This will give you the arms of your bow.

Step 3: Preparing the Popsicle Stick

Measure out a straight length on the Popsicle stick about a centimeter. Cut out this section using the wire cutters. Then use the sand paper to sand down the edges. Now find the center of the piece. Put a hole about a tenth of an inch in diameter. This will end up being the handle of the bow.

Step 4: Bow of the Bow

Glue the two hair clips to the popsicle stick. Make sure the wide end is what you're gluing to the stick. This will make the bow part of the bow.

Step 5: Stringing the Bow

Cut a two inch section of the wire from the Christmas lights. Strip this and twist the copper together. Push the "bow string" through one of the holes on the hair clip. Tie this off. Then push it through the other, keeping it tight. Tie this off as well.
