We made these adorable little snow globes for our recent holiday craft night. The project was inspired by baby food jar snow globes on Craftaholics Anonymous.

For this project, you'll need:

  • baby food jar
  • 1½ tablespoons of Instamorph
  • 1 teaspoon of glitter
  • items for inside the snow globe: mini trees, little toys or Instamorph scupltures
  • hot glue or epoxy

Optional items:

  • Distilled water
  • Glycerin (helps suspend the glitter in the water)
  • Clear silicone caulking
  • Spray paint for jar lids

YuKonstruct is the first makerspace in Canada's north. Our mission is to provide access to shared space, quality tools, available expertise, and a collaborative environment to help makers build anything!

Step 1: Prepare the Jars

Clean the labels off of the jars.

We soaked ours in hot water and Oxyclean to remove the labels and then used Goo Gone to remove the remaining glue residue.

Spray paint the jar lids.

Step 2: Make the Snowy Scene

Decide what you would like in your little snow globe. We used different items including little toys and bits of plastic plants cut to look like tiny trees.

Follow the instructions on the InstaMorph package. Heat up the InstaMorph with warm water. When it turns clear, remove it from the water and shape it to fit in your jar.

Insert your chosen objects into the Instamorph and let it cool. When it is cool it will turn a lovely snowy white!

You can also use InstaMorph to sculpt whatever you want for the inside of your snow globe.

Glue your snowy scene to the inside of the jar lid.

Step 3: Put It All Together

Add glitter and glycerin to the jar.

Fill it with distilled water.

Screw on the lid (with the objects attached).

Optional Step: add silicone caulking to the inside of the jar lid before you close it to help make a watertight seal. If you use silicone, allow it to set as per the instructions on the package.
