Introduction: Minion Hat W/ a Mouth That Zips

About: Currently a substitute teacher taking a break from working in the salon. love cooking and making crafty things

I originally was just going to make a hat with a smiley face look but with a zipper mouth pocket. When I was most of they way finished I thought the hat looked a little plain, and then instantly I got the image of a minion in my head. I ended up sewing the eyes closer to each other and making goggles for them. This is the perfect hat to wear if you love to talk, because you can zip up your mouth and continue talking. The pocket also makes a great place to put your chapstick, with winter coming you never know when you'll need it. If you know how to crochet, take advantage of it, and keep yourself warm this winter! :)

I tried to explain the directions the best I could, if you'd like to make this hat and have any questions please ask and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

supplies:

yellow yarn

grey yarn

black yarn

white yarn

pink/red yarn

zipper

metal yarn needle

crochet hook 5.50mm

scissors

Step 1: Crocheting Into a Zipper

to make the stitches in the zipper yarn the yarn needle.

next put the needle into the cloth part of the zipper and pull the yarn through. ake sure you knot the end of the yarn first.

then bring the needle through the cloth part of the zipper again, before bringing the yarn all the way through bring the needle through the loop you just made and pull.

do the same thing for all the stitches.

Step 2: Making the Body of the Hat

Chain 4

Slip Stitch in last chain from hook to form a ring

10 hdc into ring (10)

2dc into every stitch (20)

1dc in the first stitch 2dc in the next, 1dc, 2dc, etc. (30)

1 dc, 1dc, 2dc, etc. (40)

1dc, 1dc, 1dc, 2dc, etc.(50)

1dc, 1dc, 1dc, 1dc, 2dc, etc. (60)

1dc in every stitch

1dc in every stitch

1dc in every stitch

1dc in every stitch

count the amount of stitches you made on your zipper, then subtract the number from 60 and then divide in half. (for example: my zipper has 16 stitches on the top row including corners. 60- 16= 44 & 44/ 2= 22)

1dc in the next n stitches. (n stands for the number you got above. In my case n stands for 22) then for the next n stitches start off like you would with a dc, wrap the yarn around the hook, put the hook in the next stitch and draw the yarn through. wrap yarn around hook and pull through first two stitches on hook. put the hook through the first stitch on your zipper, yarn over and pull through all three stitches on hook. 1dc in each stitch for the rest of the row.

1dc in every stitch until you get to the zipper. when you get to the zipper slip stitch in every stitch. when done with zipper continue with dc for remaining stitches in that row.

1 dc in every stitch at the end of the row slip stitch and tie it off

Step 3: Making the Eyes

Eyeballs:

with black yarn:

chain 4

slip stitch in last stitch to make a ring

10hdc in ring

slipstich and join the white yarn

chain 3 and then 2dc in each stitch at the end of the row slipstitch into the 3rd chain in the beginning of the row

chain 3 and then 1 dc in first stitch 2dc in next all the way around. slipstitch at the end.

(make 2)

sew them on to the hat where the eyes would go.

Goggles:

with gray yarn make a chain long enough to fit around the eyes you made above then slipstitch in the last chain. sew with a yarn needle around crocheted eye. (make 2)

with black yarn make a chain long enough to reach the outer side of one crocheted eye to the other. after making the chain dc in every stitch. Sew onto the hat.

Step 4: Making the Mouth

turn hat inside out.

insert the hook into one of the stitches attaching the zipper. slipstitch an chain 3. dc in every stitch around the zipper. when you get to the bottom row of the zipper change the yarn color to either pink or red and continue to dc.

slipstitch at end of row and turn your work, chain 3 and crochet one more row of red only on the bottom and then slip stitch.

sew or crochet the two sides together.
