Introduction: Mortal Kombat Kandy

About: ♥ video games, snacky goods, and guinea pigs. They are the best.
The Mortal Kombat logo created with candy melts.

Candy melts are a good medium as they have a thick consistency, which helps in creating the more intricate points of the design. You can also try creating the logos with royal icing instead of candy melts if that suits your fancy. Also I really wanted to do something so I could write “kandy.” Mortal Kombat kandy Kandy KANDY! Okay I think I’m done. Here’s what you need:

Ingredients:
3/4 cup dark cocoa candy melts
1 1/2 cup red candy melts

Hardware:
    Sealable plastic bags
    Toothpicks
    Waxed paper
    Tape
Cookie sheet (or some other large, flat surface)
Logo printed out on paper (you can download my version here)

Print out the Mortal Kombat logo. You can print off a copy online, or you can use my version in PDF format, which came from reptiletc on deviantart. If you use your own image, make sure to horizontally rotate the image so the dragon is facing left instead of right.

Step 1: Set Up the Workspace

First step, secure the sheet of paper with the Mortal Kombat logo by taping it to a cookie sheet or some other large, flat surface.

Step 2: Melt the Dark Cocoa Candy Melts

Put the dark cocoa candy melts into a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, and then put into the microwave for another 30 seconds. Repeat until the candy melts are completely melted.

Scoop the candy melts into a plastic bag and seal. Snip off a teeny tiny bit of the corner of the plastic bag.

Step 3: Trace the Logo

Carefully cover the logo with the dark cocoa candy melt. I started with the head, stopping every couple of minutes to use a toothpick to nudge the candy melt into the right places.

Once I did all the candy melts, I lifted up a corner of the waxed paper and took a peak. This way you can see any spots that are looking too thin and add more candy melt.

This process takes awhile; it took me about 10 minutes per logo. But once you’re done, the hard part is over!

Allow the candy melts to sit for an hour.

Step 4: Fill in Background

Next, take the red candy melts and microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat until they’re fully melted.

Scoop into a plastic bag and snip off the corner. You can take off a good amount of the corner as we’ll just be filled in; detail work isn’t needed with this step.

Fill in around the dark cocoa candy melt circle, then flood in the rest of the candy melt.

Shake the paper when you’re done to help get out the air bubbles. I ended up with a few air bubbles in my candies due to completely missing that step, oop.

Allow to set for an hour.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Makes four Moral Kombat kandies that are 4″ in diameter.
