Introduction: Mozz-Stuffed Pizza Waffles!

About: What you WILL find in my Instructables: food, crafts, crochet, foraging, and much more. What you WON'T find in my Instructables: heavy machinery, tech-related projects (I'm just not very good with computers :(…

It's a simple story. I love pizza and I love waffles, so I developed my own recipe to make a pizza waffle! The result was a crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside savory waffle stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese. It goes great dipped in some marinara sauce :)

Step 1: Ingredients

Here is what you'll need to whip up your own pizza waffles:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • pepper to taste

Marinara sauce for dipping (optional)

Mini pepperoni (optional)

I used the back of a piping tip and some salami to create mine

Notes:

This recipe makes about 4-5 waffles depending on the size of your waffle iron.

Step 2: Sift Dry Ingredients

Sift your flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar into a large bowl and whisk to combine.

Step 3: Mix Wet Ingredients

Add your milk and eggs to a separate medium bowl and whisk until well incorporated.

Step 4: Combine Wet to Dry

Slowly add your wet mix to your dry ingredients and whisk in circular motions gently (there is such thing as over mixing!)

Once you have a batter-like consistency, slowly pour in your melted butter and whisk it in.

You should have a smooth, pourable batter.

Step 5: Add the Rest of the Ingredients

Add your Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and your parmesan cheese. These can all be to your taste.

Step 6: Make Your Waffles!

First, follow the instructions for your waffle maker and bring your iron up to heat. Then, spray liberally with non-stick spray.

Here is the technique for making my mozz-stuffed pizza waffles:

  1. pour a thin layer of batter, enough to cover the bottom of the iron tray.
  2. take a handful of mozzarella and place it in the middle of the batter.
  3. pour another layer of batter over the mozzarella, enough to seal it in.
  4. if you choose, place your pepperoni pieces over the batter
  5. close the iron and cook your waffles for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 7: Let Cool

Waffles will get soggy if you stack them like pancakes straight from the iron. So let them cool a bit on a wire rack to retain their crispiness.

Bust out your marinara sauce for dipping.

Step 8: Enjoy!

These pizza waffles are super yummy as an afternoon snack and really hit that pizza craving.

I hope you like them as much as I do!
