Super Easy Modular Origami Octahedron

This is a fairly simple yet painstaking piece of origami, it consists of 6 units joined together to create an octahedron.

The hardest part of this is putting it all together, you should find the rest simple an repetitive!

Anyway, lets get started!

Step 1: The Longest Process

This part is the easiest to explain, make 6 water bomb bases.

Start by getting a square piece of paper and fold it in half diagonally both ways like the first two photos.

Now flip it over and fold it in half horizontally and vertically like the 3rd and 4th photos.

The piece will want to start to collapse like the 5th photo shows, you need to help it along so it looks like photo 6 and 7.

It should then collapse completely like photo 8, when it is like this you will need to crease the edges and flatten it.

Congrats! you have made a water bomb base, complete another 7 and you are ready to move on to step 2!

Step 2: Make a Star!

Make a star by putting the base do the point is facing up and then fold out the sides so it looks like the photo.

Do this with each of the 6 units and then go to step 3.

Step 3: Joining Unites All Units.

You need to join the units, this is simple for the first four and then it gets a lot harder for the last two.

To join them you will need to open one of the "flaps" and insert another flap from a different colored unit into the hole like the 1st photo shows.

continue this pattern to join all 6.

The outcome of the 6 joined together should result in 2 opposing layers from each unit over other flaps and two opposing layers from each unit in another flap.

When assembling the 5th and 6th units you should take great care not to rush the process or you will bend and crease the edges that need to be flat.

Patience is needed for this origami piece an you should take great care and time, the efforts will be rewarded with an awesome piece of art!
